A delicious and protein rich vegetarian burger substitute - and easy to boot! This one comes from

This delicious bread is from the blog Bakingdom. It's absolutely delicious (I know, I said delicious already), but it really is! And... you slather the top with honey (raw and local, if you've got it, or agave for vegans), and top it with oats. Sooooo.... delicious! While I haven't tried it with ww or spelt flour yet, I plan to. If you do try it, just know the weight of the flour will be different, so go by cups instead.

This slightly edited recipe comes to you from the awesome blog - I made it with ww flour, and it was super delish! Even the parrots went nuts for it! (Then again, they eat pretty much everything...) I did toss the frozen blueberries in a heaping tablespoon of flour, to prevent blue muffins. This is definitely a keeper!

This Provençal Vegetable Stew is a delicious medley vegetables, tomatoes, and herbs. Served on a bed of rice, or with some fresh chewy bread for soaking up the yummy juices, you really can't go wrong with this stuff. Growing up, my mom made this often, calling it 'vegetable medley' (probably because the name ratatouille would scare us kids off). This recipe comes from the Moosewood Cookbook - the original one, written by Mollie Katzen, and probably my most favourite cookbook of all time. It's often considered Mediterranean, however it's roots are in France.

This recipe came from, one of my favourite food blogs... and she's adapted it from Rustic Fruit Desserts. All I know is that it's delicious! It's the perfect summer cake, a light tasting lemon-kissed, berry wonder - the perfect use for the plentiful berries available this time of year. Make it for dessert, and enjoy it for breakfast the next day. Use fresh berries when available, frozen are ok, too. Feel free to use whatever berries are in season, or whichever you prefer. When I made it, I left the glaze off, and sprinkled it lightly with powdered sugar. Delish.

I came across this recipe in a book called Quinoa 365: The Everyday Superfood, and it was a hit at a family BBQ, using the original cheese; Bocconcini. Bummed out that I didn't take the leftovers home for lunches, I made it again, this time using Herb & Garlic crumbled feta that I had in the fridge - holy bananas, feta took this salad to rock star status! I have two parrots, Merlin and Arwen (featured in some of my pics), and I had to put out two treat dishes for them, as neither would let the other near it! Try it with any good, tasty, cheese, and you'll love it - and if you don't do cheese, marinated tofu would be stellar as well. Use your imagination! One thing I can say is that when I made the salad with Bocconcini, maybe it was because I didn't marinate it, I served it immediately, but somehow, that very mild cheese just didn't do the dish justice. I sure hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

This is the recipe by Glo McNeill, 82, of Lunenburg, N.S. that won the grand prize on the Canadian Show 'Recipe to Riches', by Food Network Canada. She said the recipe was inspired by her childhood in post-war England and the happy memories that thoughts of her mom’s lemon curd still evoke. The Grand Prize took the cash prize 'cake' in Canadian game show history, winning not only $250,000, but also it will become a President's Choice product! What's really decadent about this recipe is that the top two-thirds will be cake consistency and bottom third will be pudding consistency.

From The Planet Organic Market Cookbook, this is a super simple fruit pie recipe with several easy variations. Use it with a standard pie crust, or try it with recipe #465805 or recipe #465806 for a change of pace. For the most tasty pie, use organic fruit!

Here's another one from The Planet Organic Market Cookbook, this is a change of pace from a standard pie crust.

Another recipe from The Planet Organic Market Cookbook, this recipe is made with all organic ingredients; use organic where you can. From the recipe, "This crust is a treat unto itself and is much easier to make than a pastry pie crust."

From The Planet Organic Market Cookbook, "Who ever thought mild-mannered tofu could have such…attitude? Many have tried to crack the code on our savoury peppery snack, and now they’ll become a favourite in your kitchen."

Good anytime, the cranberries and pumpkin seeds in this dish will brighten up your Thanksgiving table. The sterols and zinc in the pumpkin seeds help your immune system for the cold winter ahead. The earthy sweetness of the kale is set off nicely by the nutty flavour of the quinoa. Use both red and white quinoa for a nice colour variation. Source: Chatelaine

I found this one on, from Chef Michael Smith. Not only does it look really simple for an apple pie, it's whole grain AND adds an interesting flavour twist! From the description: "This is not a classic apple pie. This pie is easier to make. The pastry is so easy to stir together that you can also make a crumble topping with the same ingredients. Throw in a surprising flavour twist and this pie will become a classic of its own!"

Jim Lahey from NYC's Sullivan Street Bakery, says an 8-year-old could do it. It's simple, artisan, crusty, chewy, a little salty... does it get any better? Prep time does not include 14 - 20 hours rising time.

This is a recipe by Theresa Albert from her book "Ace Your Health". She pinky swears that you'll understand the magic by the third day! Note that the white chia seeds are known as "Salba", and if you do a web search on "salba" you will find plenty of sources for this fantastic fibre and phyto power source! I just picked up a bag and plan to stir up a batch.

Got this one from Chow - sounds great, putting her for safekeeping! "We like 18 Rabbits’ Funky Figs and Cherry bars, but we knew that we could make them better. We definitely knew we could give them a better name. Enter the Cherry Power Bar. It beats up on wussy energy bars with its tartness and light sweetness, but it’s no bully: It’s got nice chewiness. Plus with all that wheat germ and flax seed, as well as oats and nuts, it’ll power you through your morning or provide a pick-me-up in the afternoon."

    Recipe #464706

Packed with Omega-3’s, protein, and fiber, this date-cocoa-seed bar gets its superpower from good old-fashioned nutrients rather than sugar. The flavors are based on the Chocolate Fudge UltraMeal Rice Bar by Metagenics, but we think it looks and tastes heaps better. Plus, it doesn’t cost $2.50 a pop. Highway robbery never tastes very good. Superpowers are delicious. These are from and I am placing them here for safe keeping.

Mom has been making this Pumpkin Pie recipe for as long as I can remember. I don't know where she got it, but it's our family favourite, and nothing even comes close in our minds to Mom's light and fluffy pie. She's converted pumpkin pie haters to pumpkin pie lovers over and over again. I LOVE my Mom's pumpkin pie, and hope you do do! Note: I have adjusted the amount of pumpkin after receiving LIG's feedback.

I picked this recipe up from one of my most favourite, if not my most favourite blogs, 101 Cookbooks. Heidi says about it, "I call this magic sauce. In part, because it makes everything it touches shimmer with deliciousness. It's magic like that. Technically, it's a riff on a chimichurri sauce - one that veered off the rails in a big way. Much tweaking has rendered it a distant second cousin. If that. In fact, the hallmark of that sauce, parsley, I skip entirely. But I love this. Love love love. And I use it a hundred different ways." And well, it just sounds magic to me - so I've put it here for safekeeping.

Whole oats make these scones special. They can be a bit crunchy in places and chewy in others, which makes for a diverse experience within one scone. They're slightly sweet, but not a dessert scone at all. From the wonderful (and highly recommended) cookbook, "Alice's Tea Cup", by Haley Fox & Lauren Fox
