I found this in the Periplus Mini Cookbooks series. This recipe was my first attempt at baking. I baked this for dessert last Christmas - thank heavens this is a forgiving recipe! I used dates that given to me by a friend who lived in Saudi Arabia.
This is from my favourite Malaysian chef, Amy Beh (kuali.com). A very spicy and flavourful curry that goes well with basmati rice, chappati or naan. To please by Swedish DH, apart from basmati rice, I also add a side dish of potatoes (sauteed in butter until crisps) and homemade apple chutney to cut the heat. I normally add about 360 gms of skinned, seeded, and diced tomatoes to the vindaloo.
This is from Periplus : Chinese And Asian Step-by-Step. This is a kid pleaser. I have made this several times and it is now a firm family favourite. I have varied the vegetables in the chow mein depending on what I could get. I love adding dried shiitake mushrooms which I pre-soak in hot water before shredding. Sometimes, I don't deep-fry the noodles (for the sake of my weight conscious DH) - both ways the sauce works out fine.
