This is a recipe that my family uses around the Holidays. Every Christmas Eve my Dad uses it to make rolls which we spread with a delicious crab mixture. You can also use this recipe to make a loaf. Enjoy!
My Mom makes the best berry pie in the world. Her crusts are homemade with flour, water, and a great no trans-fat shortening. The filling is so easy it hardly warrants an entry but it's just so wonderful I had to share.
This is a recipe from a book I am reading on Japanese Cuisine. I'm interested in the nutritional contents so I decided to post it. The recipe calls for granulated sugar but I have replaced that with sucanat - a natural sweetener. The recipe also calls for usu-age tofu which is deep fat fried tofu however, I am substituting baked tofu to avoid the extra oil. If you do use the usu-age tofu, be sure to blanch each slice twice and squeeze out the extra moisture when finished. Usu-age tofu is available in most Asian markets and is often called Abura-age tofu.
This is a delicious dessert that is easy and fast to make. It comes from my Garden Cuisine cookbook by Paul Werner. The dried fruits listed below are the ones given in the original recipe however, I just used whatever I had around the house.
This is a yummy, healthy way to enjoy pizza from my Garden Cuisine cookbook by Paul Wenner. Below are the toppings that I chose however, you can use any of your own pizza favorites. I actually added some Hawaiian sausage to a couple of them for my meat-loving guests Enjoy!
This recipe was inspired by my attempt to increase the amount of pumpkin in my diet. I have started reading SuperFoods RX by Steven Pratt (which I highly recommend) and am learning about all of the nutritional benefits pumpkin has to offer. The challenge is that I am used to eating pumpkin in nothing but pies/cookies/sweet breads etc. I decided to try a pumpkin yogurt because yogurt is also one of Pratt's 14 super foods.
This soup is quick, easy, and affordable. Not to mention healthy and filling! I have it atleast once a week and the best part is you can tailor it to your own taste buds. I have experimented with lots of different spices and have found that just garlic tastes the best to me but feel free to be creative! Hope you enjoy it.
These are super healthy protein bars that I saw on the Food Network. I've made my own few adjustments but all in all these bars have more protein and less sugar than anything you can buy. AND, once you've bought all of the bulk ingrediants (wheat flour, wheat germ, oat bran etc.) each batch is relatively inexpensive. They originally had dried fruit in them but i've omitted that. Hope you enjoy them!
