My son has a 16 year old appetite and a 4 year old palate. Like most teenagers, he doesn't have time for a good breakfast in the morning. Two of these hearty muffins plus a bottled smoothie are great on the run to school and hold him until lunch time. Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips for a special treat. But no raisins. Because they are evil, you know :)

    Recipe #480828

Adapted from Cooking in the New South by Ann Byrn Phillips.

    Recipe #431251

From the King Arthur Flour cookbook. Best made ahead of time and allowed to "age" for a few days.

    Recipe #404527

From Cooking in the New South. A little lighter than most corn bread recipes. Can be made with white or yellow corn meal. If you don't have buttermilk handy, adding 1 tsp vinegar to regular milk and letting it curdle for about five minutes will have a similar effect.

    Recipe #318125

Really good--my family loved it, and my son ate it despite the mushrooms (:

    Recipe #306309

Adapted from "Cooking in the New South." This is a great dessert for people who really love chocolate. It is not as sweet as most pecan pies. Serve with sweetened whipped cream on top. Yum!
