I can't read my handwritten recipe card that this was written on because of all the spills that landed on it whilst making this delicious, comforting soup. I clipped this from a newspaper (or magazine?) years ago and my husband has since taken over the task of making this soup from any hambone that he can acquire. I do hope you enjoy this as much as we do. :)
My sisters and I copied this recipe from our dear Mom who passed away in 2001....anyway it is very popular and my youngest sister brings it to all our family gatherings. Now the next generation is requesting the recipe so I thought I would post it. Enjoy :)
From my Harrowsmith cookbook Vol. 2, submitted by Anne Budge of Belfountain, ON. We assemble these on the vinyl tablecloth in assembly line fashion. One person places the ham, the other sprinkles the cheese and spices. We use more cheese than stated in the recipe because we usually make up a couple of pans of this. Really it is very flexible. Can substitute mushroom sauce in place of tomato sauce.
From "Grow Healthy Kids" by Linda S. Peavey this is a recipe I have used for years, since the kids were kids (grown-ups now) and it originally called for chicken but I made the substitution to use up holiday meal leftovers. Enjoy! Make 2 if you have the ingredients then put 1 in the freezer for later.
