I came up with this recipe after making Nanking Cherry Jelly from a different recipe. This one is a little bit more tart and not as stiff as the other recipe. I used a whole apple (core and peel included) for a little extra pectin. First you have to make the juice from the cherries, then you can make jelly by straining through a cheesecloth or make jam by squeezing the pulp through a colander to get rid of the seeds.
I found this recipe in one of my cookbooks "Land O Lakes - Treasury of Country Recipes" years ago and finally tried it last night for company. Everyone asked for the recipe before they left. Very Very Good. This is the original recipe, but I added a clove of garlic when I added the onion.
This is a great school snack, as it is full of oatmeal, so it fills the kids up at snack time. This is the original recipe, but I have added sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, raisins, etc to it instead of the chocolate chips. Whatever you add to it is great. These are very similar to a "Monster Cookie" but with no peanut butter - Great for Nut-Free snacks
If you like sweet & sour meatballs but don't like all the fuss of making balls, you will love this dish. It is very easy and quick to put together. This is one of our favorite weekday meals, served over rice.
