Posted in honor of Woody, our red-headed stepchild lab mix! One day our vet said,
"Your dog is fat!" This is the "diet" she prescribed for Woody,
and it worked!!! Woody safely and gradually lost 18 lbs over about a year. The best
part is that he thought he was getting "people food" every day - he never
even knew he was on a diet!
I was going to call it "Sailor Sauce" because it is always a hit with DH and his friends. It is really a good "stiff" sauce, don't kid yourself that the alchohol will burn off with the cooking - it won't! Try it on bread pudding.
We had this great corn chowder at our local pub, and DH just raved about it. He wanted me to ask for the recipe but I was pretty sure I could duplicate it. I dare say mine might even be a little bit better! This is a savory chowder, not sweet at all, with a spicy kick of cayenne.
I guessed on the sizes of the cans, but they were all around 14 oz. standard canned veggie size.
I found this recipe in a Taste of Home magazine. I made it twice so far and it was a hit at two parties. I'm sure you could use the same method with any shape of loaf, or only slice the loaf crosswise and stuff the slots.
This is a good beef jerky marinade, especially if you prefer one that is not loaded with pepper. My mom gave me this recipe, I think it came enclosed with her dehydrator. This amount will marinade about 2 1/2 pounds of meat. I prefer to use thin sliced London Broil, it's nice and lean.
