This is my mother's recipe, she always used to freeze her root ginger and then she came up with this idea. As root ginger is called for in so many recipes these days its just so quick and easy to grab straight away out of the fridge. This is brilliant because you can either prepare as little or as much ginger as you wish, its best to make a lot when the good quality ginger is in season!! You only have to make this once a year as it keeps indefinately. I will value your comments with this one
These are my mother's world famous lamb shanks. They are absolutely delicious, the meat literally falls off the bone. Serve with vegetables and mashed potatoes. Wonderful with Merlot! It just sets off the flavours. Fabulous to serve for a dinner party as you can socialise and get everything ready because they cook for so long.
My Dad just loves Buckwheat Cakes and when he lived in Canada ate them all the time, the problem in New Zealand for a long time you couldn't buy Buckwheat flour, well now you can!! He looked at about five different recipes on Zaar and has come up with this one. He made it for breakfast the other morning and this was so good served with Maple Syrup with a sprinkling of lemon juice. Just supurb, hope everyone else likes them just as much as we did
I know there is the Edmonds Cookbook version of this dressing but this is the one that I grew up with and its slightly different, it came from the back of the highlander condensed milk tin, I still make it today and it seems to keep indefinately in the fridge, great with everything.
This is from the book of Charmaine Soloman. We are preserving limes in bulk and they are wonderful for cooking, remember this is a recipe for preserved limes not fresh limes!!! I just love this, the flavour of this is strong so you do not need much.
These are to die for. Absolutely fabulous with a cheese board, they just add that magnificent flavour. We have access to three fig trees and make these all summer, they are gorgeous, you must have a dehydrator to make these though, the oven just doesn't work.
