    I have been making this for so long that I can't remember where I got it. I think it might be in an advertisement for something, but for the life of me I cannot remember for what, nor find the recipe online. At any rate, it's a delicious, light and refreshing pie that has been one of our family favorites for over a quarter of a century!

    It’s hard to find a healthy pie crust recipe. While high in fat calories, the coconut oil in this recipe at least makes it a healthy fat. I’d always had trouble getting whole-wheat pie crusts to taste good, but in this case the coconut oil gives it a texture, lightness, and flakiness that whole wheat crust has a hard time obtaining with other fat sources. With pie crust, which has just a few simple, plain ingredients, the success of the finished product depends solely on technique. This method is my own. I’ve perfected it over the years and will do my best to explain the process in this recipe. Too much working of the dough can make the difference between tough and common or flaky and memorable. You can apply these techniques to any pie crust you make, whole wheat crust or not. Once you turn out this type of a pie crust, you will never want to use a purchased crust again.

    We have been enjoying Oatcakes for breakfast since my now-adult children were toddlers. With white flour and shortening among the ingredients, the original recipe was NOT clean, so after I started eating healthy I found a way to make them good for us. The best part is that no-one can tell the difference- really!

    Our German host daughter is a lovely girl. Her parents sent this recipe to me along with several others when I felt she might be craving some foods from home. The entire family loves these. The best way I can describe them is like a baked pizza hush puppy. Just fabulous! I have included both the metric and US measurements (or as close as I could figure them from the metric- I actually weigh my flour for the grams). You may need to adjust to your taste.

    I never knew what carrot cake tasted like until Grandma sent me this recipe. I am allergic to nuts and had to make it myself to try it! Consequently I have nothing to compare it to, but I have had several people tell me it is the best carrot cake they've ever eaten. I even made it for our wedding cake.

    Broetchen is very popular in Germany. The word means “little bread”. It is near impossible to get authentic broetchen here in the US. After several attempts and combining what our German exchange student and a good German friend told me about it, I finally came up with this recipe. I was told by both that this is about as close to the real deal as you are going to get in the US, since our flours are different from theirs. Be sure to use bread flour! Any other kind will turn out too heavy a roll. And follow the baking instructions exactly. These are necessary steps for it to turn out correct. It will still be good, but not as authentic as what you would find in Germany. Bonus: This is made in the bread machine, which saves a lot of hassle!
