This is my favourite dessert to make! I think it's from a Women's Weekly cookbook of the early 80s. I don't use the salt, but leaving it there as it's part of the original recipe. Perfect in the cold weather but I love them any time but in the worst heat of summer. They're fantastic on their own but can be served with ice cream. If I'm having a craving and have no brown sugar I'll use white sugar - not quite the same but when you have a craving it's almost perfect.
This is from the side of a packet of sugar - need to throw it out, so I'm posting it for safe keeping. When I do make it, if I have some spare calories in my diet, I'll be making a lemon cream cheese frosting with poppy seeds in it instead of just dusting with icing sugar.
This is my grandmother's recipe - I believe she got it from a magazine many years ago however no one can remember which. Very simple, but excellent. Serving numbers and preparation time are estimates. I don't use the cinnamon or nutmeg, generally use 250g cream cheese and low fat milk. Freezes well.
