I wanted a fairly low calorie muffin for breakfast, so I threw this together. It works out to about 117 calories per muffin. You can use any jam for the filling, but if you're counting calories, remember to adjust the total! (the Kraft light double raspberry jam I used is 62 calories for the 6 tsp used)
A quick and easy applesauce that tastes like baked apples! Works very well with Gala or other sweet apples. Can also be made with light margarine and brown sugar flavored Sugar Twin for the calorie conscious. (This is a sweet applesauce, and is more suited to being a dessert than a side dish.)
My aunt used to make these cookies when I was younger, and I liked them enough to have my mother get the recipe for them. My aunt died not long after, and the recipe was misplaced. It recently resurfaced, so I'm submitting it to Zaar so it doesn't get lost again.
(Unfortunately the recipe doesn't say how large or thick the dough circles should be, so some experimentation might be necessary! I've also guessed at the cooking time - please watch your cookies!)
From 1001 Old-Time Household Hints, by Yankee Magazine. Their description says it's "...believed to ease the aches for people - and dogs - with arthritis." I don't know if it does anything for aches, but about a cup of this stew mixed in with her kibble every night has gotten my old dog eating regularly again.
Note: I sometimes have trouble finding beef heart at the meat counters. I've substituted a mix of beef liver and chicken hearts, and my dog seems to be just as happy with the stew.
A rich, tasty white (yellow) cake from "1001 Old-Time Household Hints", by Yankee Magazine. Once you try this, you'll never want to buy boxed cake mix again!
Yankee Magazine suggests using Italian Frosting with this cake, which I haven't tried yet, but will post separately (check my other recipes).
Tip: Left over egg whites can be used to make angel food cake, or make meringue.

I found this recipe in my mom's old recipe box, and thought it sounded interesting. This one wasn't dated, but many of the other recipes in the box are from the 1960s. The quantities are a little vague, but I think it should be fairly easy to figure out!
