I have not yet tried this, but it is from an overdue library book (From Our Mothers' Kitchens) and I want to return the book tomorrow, so need to get the recipes I want to try copied down, pronto. The author of the book, Anita Stewart, says this recipe has been perfected over the years by herself and her mother. She says this is "the ultimate recipe" for chili sauce. When late summer rolls around this year, I'll definitely be trying this one! The prep time includes the time needed to let the tomato and onion mixture stand.

I have not yet tried this, but it is from an overdue library book (From Our Mothers' Kitchens) and I want to return the book tomorrow, so need to get the recipes I want to try copied down, pronto. I have always liked a white clam sauce, but this sounds like a great variation.

I have not yet tried this, but it is from an overdue library book (From Our Mothers' Kitchens) and I want to return the book tomorrow, so need to get the recipes I want to try copied down, pronto. I am very much looking forward to trying this soup.

This was the new cookie I tried for Christmas 2003 (found it in The Toronto Star newspaper). The kids didn't seem to go for them much, but all the adults really liked them. If you like the flavour combination of ginger and chocolate, then these cookies are for you! They're easy to make and keep very well when stored in airtight containers.

This President's Choice recipe is a wonderful cream sauce to serve over pork or chicken, or even veggies; thick, rich and luscious.

This recipe is from a 1959 Crisco cookbook, Praise For The Cook, and I'm posting it as part of my ongoing contribution of vintage recipes from my vast collection of older cookbooks. It "makes a rich, savory dinner dish".

This recipe is from a 1959 Crisco cookbook, Praise For The Cook, and I'm posting it as part of my ongoing contribution of vintage recipes from my vast collection of older cookbooks. Apparently, this casserole is "good for busy "meeting" days" since you can "fix it in the morning and bake it for evening". If you do that, it will likely take longer than 30 minutes to heat through, though.

This recipe is from a 1959 Crisco cookbook, Praise For The Cook, and I'm posting it as part of my ongoing contribution of vintage recipes from my vast collection of older cookbooks. In the cookbook it says this recipe is "how to turn leftover meats into a sumptuous dish".

Posted in response to a request for a cake without eggs, milk or butter. Untried by me, though.

Untried by me; submitted on behalf of a request for stuffings made without bread.

I have only made this recipe once, but boy was it good. The next time I make it, I think I will cut back on the peppers (they don't go over too well at my home) and add some sauteed onion instead. This serves 12 as a snack, but less if you want to make these a meal (I'd recommend serving with mexican rice and a salad). Based on a Gail Hall recipe.

I discovered the "wee kick" a can of Rotel adds to stew just by accident, when I was making a beef stew but had no regular canned tomatoes on hand, but did have several tins of Rotel since I had stocked up on a trip to the U.S. (it's not sold here in Canada). It doesn't add a fiery kick, just a pleasant addition of some heat, making this stew a little different than most. But if you just want a great beef stew, by all means make this recipe without the Rotel. I'm sure you'll like it, with or without the canned tomatoes!

I am on a fresh ginger kick, plus it's the time of year (it's autumn as I write this) to use those fresh apples! I really appreciate that this recipe makes such a small amount that you can keep it in the fridge, without the bother of processing it. Makes a great hostess gift, too.

I make this dessert a lot in the fall, and wasn't even going to post it until a friend called wanting to know how I make apple crisp, as she had just bought a big bag of apples. I honestly thought everyone could throw together an apple crisp, as it's a very forgiving recipe when it comes to measurements; it's easy to wing it. But, for everyone who wants to know or wants a recipe as a starting-point, here's how I make this classic, traditional autumn dessert. Sometimes I even add a handful of raisins in with the apples; depends on my mood. This is very easy to make; the only part that might give you any grief is peeling all those apples.

This recipe belongs to Mrs. Saralu C. Jenkins, the home ec teacher at Clarkston H.S., in Clarkston, Georgia. I found this recipe in a 1966 cookbook entitled: Our Favorite Meats: Favorites From Home Economics Teachers". This is posted as part of our vintage-cookbook thread!

This delicious dessert is a real study in contrasts. The base is dense and rich, while the mousse is light and airy. I brought this to our family's 2003 Thanksgiving dinner, where it was a big hit. I'll be making it many times, and I'll make the mousse on its own, too.

When peanut butter cookies are requested in my home, this is the recipe I turn to. It's one of my favourites!

On October 2, 2001, I discovered the Recipezaar Web site. I immediately joined so I could post a request for a recipe I had lost. In less than an hour, I had a reply: this recipe. Unfortunately, I never posted it into the database -- until now. My mistake. This cake was the reason I joined, and the friendly response I received was the reason I stayed!

This sandwich has some kind of kick! If you add extra mayo or sour cream, you've got a great salmon dip for crackers.
