I refuse to eat tomatos when they are mealy and just bad. But I find that a salad needs something other than lettuce. This is what I use until the good tomatos are out or until mine are ripe. Different ingredients for a salad, but pretty healthy and the flavors go together nicely. I have used many different fruits, including blueberries; which were fabulous in this. Walnuts can work really well too in place of the almonds. Hope it works for you.

    Recipe #310327

Healthier version but not lacking in taste. Trying to get the nutritional content on this as it came out exactly as I was hoping. Dense, soft texture and taste seems to be just right; not overly sweet but very flavorful. I buy the small loaf tins and make two at a time; one for my daughter with carob chips and one for me either plain or with fresh mango chunks. I will also try making this into muffins and freezing; will update if it works out. Very versatile recipe; hope it works for you.

    Recipe #307354

These are my 4yr old daughter's favorite muffins that we make. I am posting these for the nutrition info. They are moist and not overly sweet. The recipe is very versatile. For the yogurt, I use this new ogranic yogurt from Wegmans Grocery store which is called "Super yogurt" as it has pro biotics and pre biotics but those nutrition stats wont be listed as this site probably wont recognize a specific name brand's nutritional aspects. I have made this recipe using what is listed below for the flour, flax, wheat germ mixture and I have also been successful using only 1 1/3 c whole wheat flour and 1/2c of the flax meal, wheat germ mixture. We have made them with carob chips once, chocolate chips another time and blueberries and walnuts as well; those are just our additions, but I am sure that anything would go well in these muffins.

    Recipe #291195

This recipe is so adaptable. I have made them as listed below, or with walnuts, or blueberries, etc... I am mainly posting so I can see the nutritional value, but if you try them I hope you enjoy them as we do. They are not a super sweet muffin and I sometimes use turbinado sugar in place of the honey. I always use organic ingredients right dowon to the baking powder, but that is obviously optional here.

    Recipe #283882

Super healthy soup recipe I found from "World's Healthiest Foods" website. "Very quick and easy to prepare. Lots of flavor high in vegetable protein without being high in fat; good vegetarian meal on a cold day." To be sure it is truly healthy, be sure to use organic or all natural broths and even spices as many contain msg and/or preservatives.

    Recipe #278309

This Carrot Raisin salad is a bit different in the spices that the recipe calls for. I enjoy this salad very much, but it may just be my taste. From "World's Healthiest Foods" Website. I try to use all organic ingredients; especially on the raisins. This recipe is for the salad and the dressing. Hope it works for you.

    Recipe #277371

Posting this for nutrition information and for anyone interested in something a bit different from the usual chili. This does not have much liquid at all; but I am hoping after I read the nutrient info that it has the vitamin and protein count I am looking for. I think it has a very nice taste, and enough spice even without the chili powder. As with all chilis, everything is adjustable; especially the amount of heat you desire. The type of mushroom you choose is also optional; I find the baby portabellos worked nicely. If you try it; hope it works for you.

    Recipe #273835

This is a breakfast that is nice for a change of pace from the regular. It is light yet filling, extremely healthy and pretty easy to make. It can also be served as a dessert served over vanilla yogurt. Recipe from World's Healthiest Foods. I have made it with fresh ingredients and with prepared (like oj in a carton) and it does taste better using fresh. Hope it works for you...

    Recipe #273001

From the "World's Healthiest Foods" website. It states, "Made quickly and fresh tasting and a great way to add more veggies to your diet. Can be made in advance and kept in the fridge. Give it a little extra time to marinate before serving and the flavor will be even better." I thought it was very good, more affordable and very different from the antipastos I am use to. Hope it works for you. Turning the carrots just means that you cut on a diagonal from each side. Just cut them at your preference. Dressing recipe and ingredients included below.

    Recipe #270013

This is basically just a very simple and plain chili/casserole. I made this meal for under 8.00 (i already had the seasonings in my pantry) and it made 2 good sized adult portions. Nothing fancy but definitly answers yes to the question of, "can a person still eat good, healthy, non -processed food for cheap?" I always get store brand organic meat or the meat offered that has no hormones, antibiotics, etc... . Some stores even have their own line of organic canned goods to really keep this price low. I have even made this without the meat and just subbed a small container of fresh mushrooms and it was still really good. BE SURE to use the liquid from both the beans and the tomatoes; it gives it more flavor and better texture. Hope it works for you.

    Recipe #246595

Very tasty chili with a few ingredients not usually found in chili. I have never ever measured so everything is approximate, but this recipe lends itself to taste so it is very flexible. I have only used ground dark turkey meat but I am sure other white meat would do as well. I find that you don't need to cook the ear of corn, as it cooks while simmering, so just cut it from the cob raw. Hope it works for you.

    Recipe #244429

This is one of my 3 1/2 yr old daughter's favorite snacks.Check out the ingredient list on here; pretty healthy and tasty too. Add or subtract from the ingredient list; possibilites are endless. We've used drizzled honey, chopped dried pineapple, etc... This is so interchangeable and versatile for allergies, but to keep it healthy be sure to use organic or at the very least, all natural ingredients. You can even use a sub for the peanut butter; there are other butters out there that are nut free. Carob bars are hard to find if you dont have a Wholefoods or healthfood store nearby. Whether or not you choose to use unsweetened or sweetened ingredients is totally up to you. Obviously, all measurements are estimates (this amount is just for her and i) and "recipe" can easily be doubled or tripled for a party. Cooking time is optional refrigeration time.NOTE: THIS SITE DIDNT RECOGNIZE PRETZEL "RODS" SO THEY ARE LISTING IT AS STICKS; IT WILL ONLY WORK WITH THE RODS. STICKS ARE TOO FINE.

    Recipe #240972

Made this tonight for my 3 yr old daughter and myself. Pretty inexpensive to make, easy, and taste was very good to us. I figured total cost for this meal was less than eleven dollars for what we had to buy. Probably cheaper if you get non-organic meat and a cheaper sauce. (we had the spices already) It was enough for 3-4 people. Subs can be made using fresh garlic and adding a splash of dry red wine. NOTE: we used paul newman tomato and basil spaghetti sauce but the computer would only recognize how it's listed below. I have not tried it with other sauces. This is just listed as exactly how we made it. Hope it works for you.

    Recipe #228431

Inexpensive and very tasty. Makes a very nice, almost carmelized sauce on its own. If I cant afford organic chicken then I go to Wegmans and they have a "Food You Feel Good About" line of foods , and the meats have no hormones, antibiotics, preservatives, etc... I get a pack of 8 chicken drumsticks for 2 dollars or less to make this dish. Most of the ingredients are things usually found around the house. I usually use more garlic for my 3 yr old who likes extra on everything. Hope it works for you.

    Recipe #227667

Inexpensive and healthy meal. This was in response to someone who had asked for an inexpensive but healthy meal for a tight budget. I suggest using chicken that has no antibiotics or preservatives to really keep it healthy. The cost is just a few pennies more. Even organic chicken on the bone is sometimes cheaper than the conventional chicken breasts.I usually find it each week for under 4 dollars for a pack of 4-5 drumsticks or 2 split breasts or 5 thighs with bone. I have used split breasts with the bone, legs and thighs with the bones for this. Trim off skin first if it is thick and heavy. Taste is simple; nothing fancy but it is good. Very versatile so everything is pretty much an estimate to taste. I cook for just my daughter and i so serving sizes are only for two; can easily be doubled, especially if you can find a large pack of drumsticks. Serve with healthy fresh steamed vegetables. Hope it works for you.

    Recipe #225074

Simple, quick, healthy yet different, very few ingredients, can be used as a snack to curb sweet tooth or as a dessert. I never measure; so measurements are a complete guess. NOTE: salt and pepper are to taste. I like this because it takes a few minutes to make but when I have more time, I will roast a large clove of freshly chopped garlic in the olive oil and then when it cools whisk it into the vinegar which gives it a deeper flavor but this quick way is very nice as well.

    Recipe #214977

Made for my 3 yr old daughter at least 4 times a week upon her request. She and I share the same dinner so I am glad she likes it as I could eat it every nite and not get tired of it. Very simple, inexpensive and a good way to get younger children to eat broccoli without dousing it in processed cheese. The garlic takes on a very sweet flavor which makes it enjoyable to their tastebuds. You can use any pasta shape. She always helps me make this so everything is an estimate. Sorry!

    Recipe #212089

Easy tuna cake to make for my 3 yr old that she really enjoys and I do as well. Suggest only using the good chunk tuna as the flavor is not so fishy and the texture is more firm. She prefers extra cheese so amounts obviously can vary Olive oil can be subbed for egg but using mayo gives it an off taste. Hope you find it enjoyable as well.

    Recipe #211675

This seems to be a lighter stroganoff that my 3 yr old daughter loves. Not too rich or overly creamy. I have subbed garlic powder for the garlic clove and it was fine and used white cooking wine when I was out of good white wine with good results. She usually helps me make this so cooking times are estimates but pretty close.

    Recipe #209789

From Wegman's, Fall 2006. This can be used over veggies or an italian blend salad. I have not tried this yet but it looks very different and tasteful.
