An idea struck me when it was my son’s lunch box day on Fridays. Jon loves Onigiri, so I decided to make him an Angry Birds Lunch Box!
Angry Birds Bento Box for a 16-yr-old boy? Never mind, his mum is a big kid too!
Guess what? It was my hubby who was more impressed & “snatched” the lunch box from Jon! Yes, Ken brought these Angry Birds to his office instead!!
Remember the days when you were sick & mom used to cook you nice nutritious soups? Well, this is one of my mom’s specialities & it has now become my family’s top-of-the-list soup. It is simple, healthy & easy in just few steps but packs a punch!
Anchovies are a good source of Calcium & are often used for making fish stock. The Anchovies makes this clear Spinach Soup a mouth-watering mommy's dish.
Besides the bright red colour, I like Strawberries for their amazing nutritional facts; their antioxidants, vitamins & minerals help fight diseases. Most of all, they’ve anti-aging properties :)
My Garden Glory Salad consists of: Red & Green Oak leaves, Red Coral, Coriander, Parsley, Dill & Baby Chard.
This is my 1st attempt creating this Bountiful Goldfish Salad. Nian Nian You Yu (年年有余) symbolizes abundance though the year.
The character ä½™ (Yu) is the homophone of é±¼ (Yu). Hence, fish was used to highlight this Chinese New Year dish.
Tickle your taste buds with these charming Celery Sticks topped with Bacon Bits!
Also known as imitation Crab Sticks, the seafood is so economical & versatile. If you were to notice, I use a lot of these crabmeat in my recipes cause it’s so easy to prepare. They’re called “imitation” as it’s processed seafood made of Surimi or Alaska Pollock. In fact, these crab sticks usually do not contain any crab. LOL!
Making these Craby Celery Sticks are as easy as ABC & you can give these to your kids as healthy snacks!
Mushroom lovers, you’re gonna love this rich & creamy soup made from Portobello & Mixed Button Mushrooms!
I prefer my Mushroom Soup rich & having an exotic taste, that’s why I like the combination of the Portobello & Mixed Button Mushrooms!
There're many different types & methods of making Mushroom Soup but I like mine done this way. Well, sit back & enjoy a cuppa Mushroom.
I first tried this dish at the popular Palm Beach restaurant & I’ve been trying to perfect it since. Bite into this tender pork bun reveals a sweet & soury taste, which immediately wakes up your senses.
I'm sure the entire family will love it, especially the kids. This pork bun is soft, tender & juicy. You can make them for pot-luck, tea-break or anytime you don’t feel like having rice or noodles.
This is my home-made version, added with black beans & dried scallops. I was surprised it turned out to be my guest’s favourite dish of the day. He practically finished the whole plate of Calamari by himself & asked where he can find this dish. My answer was, “You can’t find this version anywhere but only in Shirley’s Top-Dollar Restaurant”. LOL!
I’d to make-do with a small tray of squids as I couldn’t find the large ones in the supermarket. Preferably, use the larger ones as the effect will be better & the outline from the criss-cut pattern will also be more prominent. This is an easy-to-do dish & it can go with either rice or porridge. Beware, it's spicy!!
One of the enjoyments for prawn lovers is to suck the juices & roes out from the heads. But for those who dislike eating prawn heads, most would discard after extracting their fragrant “juices” during the cooking process.
I love eating prawn heads using these 2 methods & so instead of throwing away the heads, I’d dipped them into flour & deep-fry till crispy. I’ve been receiving pretty good comments for this dish.
This is one nice dish especially when entertaining. It’s also very versatile & a great way to experiment with food too. Eg. you can use a whole chicken or thigh meat but I’ve chosen to use breast meat so I don’t have to debone; you can play with all kinds of fruits & you can even replace Salami with Ham etc. This time, I’ve decided to use peach & complement it with honey-baked ham.
