This is a very complicated recipe but well worth the effort!! Too often, German cooking is viewed as simple and easy. This recipe provides something different--German cooking as it is presented in the best 5-star restaurants all over the continent. Due to the combination of spirits in the sauce, this salad is excellent with almost any drink.
This dressing, called the "Wine Merchant" in English, likely originated from French wine merchants needing to use up small amounts of wine that would be left over at the end of the month. Best on a salad with lots of different greens. Does not go well with tomatoes or fruit. Rather complex, it is nonetheless well worth the effort. Enjoy!!
This takes a while to make, but it is scrumptious. I usually serve it for a special brunch or tea. Best when you can get the fruit in season. The seasonings are unusual but are what makes this salad truly special!! This salad was inspired by a fruit tray that I enjoyed at a restaurant in Mexico.
