These bars are seriously ridiculous because the are easy and SO rich. When I bring them for co-workers, they go biserk. Kids love them and grown men have been reduced to nothing but silence and eye rolling. Starts with a plain boxed brownie mix.
This dish was made for my family by the daughter of family friends who stayed with us while her parents traveled back to Poland for a few weeks, we were in junior high at the time. It's so simple but SO good, I still make it to this day. It is very garlic-y so beware!
There are many great gooey butter cake recipes out there but this is different from the cake mix variety because it has a yeast dough bottom. I grew up eating these cakes from a little bakery in Clayton, Mo and this recipe is as close to those as I've ever come across.
My friend's hubby goes to Pebble Beach to play golf once in a while. She really loved the granola the restaurant served and asked for the recipe. To her surprise, they sent her that recipe and it is really good. You could add dried cranberries or raisins if you wanted. This makes a lot of granola so I had to guess on the servings.
I believe I first got this from an old Taste of Home magazine, it's been YEARS and I have modified it to our tastes. I have actualy used breaded, baked chicken breasts in place of the pork chops at times. This is really comforting, rich and flavorful. Don't let the ginger and rosemary scare you off as it did me for a while! I love to serve this over a bed of hot buttered egg noodles.
I made 5 pans of this for the electrical crews that came to help restore power to our town after an ice storm, hence the name. It's easily put together the night before and kept in the fridge until the next morning to bake. I used sausage but cooked ham would make a fine substitute. Prep times are approximate.
