This was my mother's recipe and I'm posting it here while I can still read the page it's on. I've tweaked it slightly - she didn't have access to jalapeno peppers. If you run out during the winter or of you're like me and dislike the mess of peeling hot tomatoes, you can use 4 28 oz. cans diced tomatoes
Got this from about.com:chinese food. Used sweetened tart shells from the grocer's freezer. Made for Chinese New Year Dimsum for my Red Hat group and they all loved them. It made more than enough for 12 tart shells so I baked the balance in a small oven safe dish.
The crust part of this pie is labour intensive but well worth it. I found this recipe in The Province newspaper several years ago and must make it every year during blueberry season. Best made a day ahead. Cooking time is mostly chilling time.
Red wine and peppercorns produce a rich taste. This was in the newspaper and I'm posting here so I don't lose it. Intend to try it this Easter. Total cooking time is guestimate since I haven't tried it out yet.
