When baking your favorite muffins a sprinkling of one of these simple to make toppings makes for a nice touch. Well worth the few extra minutes it takes to prepare. If you only sprinkle half it will appear that you have made up two kinds of muffins...adding variety to your serving tray.

Quick, easy and makes for a great basting sauce when wanting something a touch different when grilling. Amazing how something so easily made makes for a crowd pleaser. I usually triple the recipe and when wanting a little spice I add some dried crushed chili peppers.

We enjoy little dishes of dipping sauce when we serve Chinese food. This is excellent when serving dry ribs or crispy fried chicken balls and such. This recipe was passed along from a family member and is requested any time we have the ribs and chicken. I always double this recipe.

Get tired of searching for just the right glaze when baking breads and rolls for those special occasions - keeping a list of glazes close at hand solved it for me.To give your breads a professional finish apply glaze of choice with a soft brush.

This is a hot pepper sauce that I have made and enjoyed for years. The recipe was shared by a family member, a geologist who spent some time working at the pyramid site near Mexico City. Being the great cook he was he came back with some exceptionally good recipes, this one being one of my favorites. Having been Metric for so many years I am going with 32 ounces in the pickle jar size. Original recipe calls for two # 3 cans of tomatoes - since the converter varies for the number three can I am inclined to with the #3 can being equivalent to four cups. More tomatoes can be used if one so desires. Have wonderful memories of that long ago outdoor breakfast served in a a beautiful sunny Chilliwack B.C. garden with this hot sauce passed around to give those scrambled eggs a breakfast to remember! Great over eggs, on chicken wings, if you love hot sauce you'll be wanting to make this one!

(September 2010 update below) This recipe was passed to me as an easy to work with no fail pastry that has made doing pastry easy and fun. Originally from a segment on Madam Benoit's cooking show - a recipe that wowed and was quickly passed around. She is right - it is a wonderful no fail pastry that makes for great tasting pies, as well as being freezer friendly. Recipe POSTED April 2004 - UPDATE Sept. 26, 2010 - am very familiar with the no fail recipe using vinegar and egg which was one often made by my mom - and one of Madame Benoits. It is also found on the back of the Tenderflake box. Another of her pastry recipes is her LEMON TANG PASTRY- and yes it does call for three tablespoons of Lemon juice. I am a Madame Benoit fan and this Lemon Tang Pastry is not mine - it is hers - and in my books an absolute winner ( Madame Benoit was a great cooking show host from way back - a Canadian cooking Institution by herself. She attended the Cordon Bleu in Paris and went on to become the famous Madame Benoit) It's a big recipe and if you are only making one pie, taking a few extra minutes to roll out shells for the freezer makes for having those pastry shells on hand for those unexpected moments when needing a special dessert. Works for me! Easily halved as well as very freezer friendly.

A great 'make ahead' salad to have on hand when expecting family and friends for the weekend. This is one of our favorites and most salad lovers request the recipe. Be sure to refrigerate preferably in a covered jar which I find keeps it crisp and fresh. Only the salad itself goes into the serving bowl - the marinade remains in the jar. Using one of your special glass bowls adds to the presentation.

This delightful punch was served along with a lovely assortment of fresh fruit at an afternoon function I attended this past summer. Much to my surprise this was a recipe I had overlooked in one of our community cookbooks 'A Taste Of Heaven' The unusual combination of ingredients makes for a real winner that tastes as good as it looks. For those special occasions set up a serving station with a lovely white tablecloth along with your favorite punch bowl and glasses - you will have your guests oohing and aahing before they take their first sip.

This is a lush light frosting which keeps it's consistency for 1-2 days in the refrigerator and doesn't seem to sink into the cake as so many do. Simple and easy to make. A delicious topping for those special occasions when you want something special.

Recipe from one of our favorite places to eat when in the city - Nicky's! Love this recipe shared by Nick and Marina Makris in a local cookbook. An awesome salad that allows the fresh taste of the ingredients to shine and just the way I like it! I do offer a Greek dressing when serving to guests, but find most enjoy the salad unadorned - and always an empty bowl.

Great for family gatherings, pot lucks, or any time you are expecting a crowd. This looks terrific served in a cut glass bowl. There just are no leftovers with this one! This requires overnight marinating.

There are many combinations for Cauliflower Salads, this particular version is the favorite in our area. A delicious make ahead, perfect for potlucks and family gatherings. Great salad to add to the holiday table. For those special occasions I serve this in a cut glass bowl ... making it look as good as it tastes. I have been known to add slivered almonds to make for extra crunch! This salad requires at least eight hours mellowing time ... best made the night before ... that is a big plus when you are cooking for a crowd!

These delicious appetizers were a hit at our Easter Sunday potluck Brunch. I was pleased to find the recipe was in one of our local cook books 'A Taste Of Heaven' and surprisingly a recipe I had been thinking of trying. Delicious, easy and a crowd pleaser! I find putting them on a cookie sheet and heating through in a 350 oven make for a marvelous hot appetizer. Also excellent at room temperature.

This excellent recipe was passed to me along with a pail of the smaller apple crabs. It works great with the fall apples too - especially those not requiring peeling ... works well with any baking apple. I use this with the larger fall apples - some of which do require peeling. When dealing with large quantities of the fall apple crop I double and triple this, refrigerating while preparing pastry using recipe#89861 - soon have an assembly line going. In short order have pies prepared then go on to making and freezing pie filler for the winter months with the rest of the apples. This does freeze well.Have canned a good many jars but find freezing gives me an equally good product with far less work.

This was my grandma's favorite waffle recipe. It has become a family favorite enjoyed on special occasions not only by her grandchildren but great-great grandchildren as well. The clipping is yellow with age clipped I suspect from the local daily paper many many years ago.
