An unusual name but cannot be changing a name of a recipe that has withstood the test of time! This cake was one made by pioneers and carried across the country in covered wagons. The recipe is well over a hundred years old. Years back I was gifted with a pan containing this delightful loaf along with the recipe which had been printed in the 'Fort Times.(Anne's Kitchen) We so enjoyed that we now make it every Christmas. It is a hit on the holiday tray ... guests enjoy the cake as well as the pioneer story that goes with it.NOTE January 2010- love to go through my community cookbooks, today reading through Anne Davie's 'Fifty- Five Years in Anne's Kitchen' much to my surprise find this recipe is far older than I had thought - over 200 years old! Be it in her lovely century old farm house or in her town home, Anne is a most gracious lady who shares her recipes, serves up awesome goodies at coffee time, as well as sharing her lovely gardens. A great loaf to serve any time of the year - at our house it has become one of our Christmas traditions in the making - thank you Anne!

This Canadian Living recipe perfect for those occasions when a spectacular dessert is called for. Makes for an awesome dessert. Good any time but a perfect dessert for that holiday meal. I was absolutely intimidated the first time making - don't be - for most part it is one of those marvellous make aheads requiring only a quick assembly, the meringue to be made and a few minutes under the broiler. Served with that wonderful fudge sauce which just takes minutes to reheat, you have yourself one terrific dessert to be serving family and friends. I rather suspect you could use a Brownie mix if pressed for time.

This is one of those old family recipes a friend a wonderful baker of bread, buns and rolls shared with me good many years ago. Over the years it has been the one I make for holiday meals and special occasions ... not surprisingly they began to be called the 'Holiday Buns' My most requested recipe when family gathers. Shapes beautifully to make crusty buns, fluffy dinner rolls as well as lovely braided breads which I often sprinkle with sesame seeds. Recipe easily halved and very freezer friendly.

There are many combinations for Cauliflower Salads, this particular version is the favorite in our area. A delicious make ahead, perfect for potlucks and family gatherings. Great salad to add to the holiday table. For those special occasions I serve this in a cut glass bowl ... making it look as good as it tastes. I have been known to add slivered almonds to make for extra crunch! This salad requires at least eight hours mellowing time ... best made the night before ... that is a big plus when you are cooking for a crowd!

Absolutely delicious! This old fashioned dessert never fails to please. Being a very very old recipe, one has to keep in mind that todays rhubarb is so much sweeter, you may wish to cut the sugar back to one cup or possibly one and a quarter cups ... depending on just how much sweetness you prefer.

These delicious appetizers were a hit at our Easter Sunday potluck Brunch. I was pleased to find the recipe was in one of our local cook books 'A Taste Of Heaven' and surprisingly a recipe I had been thinking of trying. Delicious, easy and a crowd pleaser! I find putting them on a cookie sheet and heating through in a 350 oven make for a marvelous hot appetizer. Also excellent at room temperature.

A delicious rosemary and orange flavored roast chicken that is a big hit with family and friends. Recipe works equally well with chicken pieces. As with the whole chicken baking time will vary as to the size of the chicken, with the pieces needing less baking time. This one will get you oohs and aahs before they have that first bite!

It took me two years to track down this recipe after it appeared at our ladies Curling Bonspiel Potluck! Since then it became a favorite not only at potlucks but at our house as well. An old fashioned comfort food enjoyed by adults and children alike. Great served with a green salad and crusty bread. This is the original recipe but you may add extra seasonings of your choice if you wish. Servings depend on just how hungry the crowd! Note - Have added the optional can of tomato soup mentioned in the instructions to the ingredient list. I always add the can of tomato soup for added flavor and extra creaminess.

This recipe was copied from a little sausage booklet and has been well enjoyed over the years. Make these for those special holiday weekend breakfasts. The aroma alone has everyone up waiting for breakfast to be served. You can double or triple the recipe as these freeze well.
