    By mid-winter, when fruit here in the north is long past fresh-picked, this pie satisfies my fruit cravings. The recipe allows for variations depending on what's in the pantry.

    I'm sure there are infinte varieties of cranberry relish on our Thanksgiving and Christmas tables. With this one I wanted to evoke a traditional New England flavor. Fortunately I can buy cranberries fresh from Cape Cod. If you freeze cranberries upon purchase they will work fine. Raspberries were added for sweetness, without overpowering the cranberry, but you could substitue other berries. The flavor of this relish is intense so adjust the sugar to your taste.

    This stew brings the fresh aroma of thyme and tarragon and the slight tang of balsamic vinegar to winter veggies. It makes a meal when served with garlic bread topped with shredded mozzarella or provalone. Chick pea flour--found in Indian grocers and in some health food stores--adds body and deepens the flavor.
