This is ripped off almost directly from this site: I'm putting it here because otherwise every time I want to make it, I spend half an hour googling it. These are good, but not addictive, which is so rare for cookies.

    Recipe #481497

I'm always on the lookout for mincemeat that meets the following criteria. 1) No meat, suet, or tomatoes 2) Not cloyingly sweet 3) Enough ingredients to make most of them a mystery 4) Keeps for a long time in the fridge, with the addition of enough booze 5) Cooks long enough to become the consistency of sludge After perusing more recipes than I can count, I finally synthesized this. I don't know if it meets criteria #4 yet, but it's working out pretty well with everything else.

    Recipe #466249

My mom always made this pie at Christmas using crushed candy canes. She has never told my dad that this pie contains raw eggs. On that note, I've always dunked raw eggs into boiling water for about fifteen seconds before I break them. I read somewhere that that will kill salmonella on the shell, but use your own best judgement in this regard. I'm sure an equivalent amount of pasteurized egg product would work too, I've just never tried it.
