Unexpected guests - no eggs in the fridge - and the promise of "real" caesar salad to our visitors is how this salad came about. Now, it's the only version we'll use! Omit the croutons and add grilled chicken or shrimp for a meal.

    Recipe #140723

A surprise because it was thrown together using ingredients in my pantry. Lighter in fat too! Great on its own as a side dish or tossed with large grilled shrimp or cooked chicken.

    Recipe #217495

A delicious quick and easy apple pie bar. You can experiment with different varieties of cookie dough, oatmeal for example as well as the applesauce filling could be substituted with apricot or peach. I use an 11 x 7 inch pan not the usual dimensions but it's one of my favourites and cost a whopping $1.00 at the neighbourhood dollar store!

    Recipe #239649

In memory of my beloved mother-in-law, Lisa. These bars freeze well and are one of Oma's many recipes that became favourites of ours.

My son prefers these to any other brownie around! Please try these and see! Experiment with different flavoured chips (minis won't sink to the bottom!) also, see at the end of the recipe for a Skor bits substitute version.

Another great appetizer! You can make the topping the day before and refrigerate it under ready.

    A hearty vegetarian dish.

    Recipe #266690

The preboiling of the ham and allowing it to sit in the liquid is what makes this ham exceptional. This can be done the day before and baked later when you need it. Skim liquid and use it use for stock or in pea soup. Pineapple juice can be substituted with balsamic vinegar if preferred.

    Recipe #80260

This quick and easy casserole is good enough for company and freezes well. I strongly recommend using the brands I list in the ingredients, unfortunately they may only be available in Canada, in which case use the closest substitute you can find.

    Recipe #226998

Rich, moist and delicious. I use this recipe as the basis of almost every cake I make, adjusting flavourings for variety. Examples are: adding lemon or orange zest; replacing some of the flour with cocoa powder for chocolate cake; almond flavouring; adding chopped apple or peaches. Endless possibilities. A real reliable standby.

    Recipe #99880

This versatile and easy pan bread (especially when you have the biscuit mix already made up!) is delicious with soups and stews. Sprinkle with different spices or herbs and customize it for your meal! Add frozen corn and sprinkle with cumin for chilis. For a focaccia flavour, omit the poppyseeds and sprinkle with a good pinch of Italian mixed herbs.

    Recipe #82664

Use the Biscuit Mix from my Recipe #80483 to make these tender muffins.

This is the closest substitute for Bisquick and can be used even as a cake mix. For Bisquick recipes go to www.bisquick.com. Double the recipe for larger family.

This is a family recipe from my birth country. It is absolutely unusual and fabulous for potluck dinners as the meat mixture and rice should be served at room temperature to enhance flavours. The accompaniments complete the exotic presentation of the dish. Your guests will be begging for the recipe!

    Recipe #80358

Authentic Asian flavour. Ketjap manis is an Indonesian thick, sweet soy sauce found in the Asian section of most grocery stores. Substitute it with 1 teaspoon low sodium sauce and 1/2 teaspoon sugar.

Another recipe developed with love for my son, Jesse.

    Recipe #142420

I'm not a huge fan of Christmas cake but this is one I have made every year since I found it in 1981 in Chatelaine magazine. This is my modification of the original. Allow the fruit to marinate the full week for maximum impact! As with all Christmas fruitcakes, make and freeze this at least one month ahead!

Very similar in taste and texture to the ones sold in your favourite coffee shops! Variations are endless.
