Hearty and delicious Sunday Dinner. Beef Roll-Ups, Rouladen as they are called in Germany make a great dish, especially when served with red cabbage and potato dumplings.
They are easily frozen and reheated!
If you can find smoked and salted pork belly instead of bacon, you'll have a real fantastic traditional German dish
Hardy and easy stew that will warm you on a cold winters day and fill your belly without emptying your wallet. My family in Germany uses smoked and salted pork belly but smoked bacon works very well, too.
These are "Hackfleisch Kuechle" translating roughly into Ground Beef Meat Balls... Its a great versatile dish that can be served with mashed potatoes rice or even french fries.. Left over meat balls are great cold, sliced in half in a Kaiser Roll!!!
This is the famous Bavarian Pork Roast. Juicy and very very tender with a fantastic sauce. Traditionally served with potato dumplings and sauerkraut.
The recipe reads very lengthy but in fact is very simple and easy to make.
1 wheat beer
This is a popular mix drink especially with the younger folks in Germany.
It is vital that you use a tall glass for this and pour the beer slowly into the glass (while holding glass tilted to the side, adjusting the angle as the glass fills).
The drink is rather muddy looking but refreshing and appeals even to "non beer fans"
This is an adaptation of an online recipe. I never made jam before because I was afraid of pectin and gelatin etc.. THIS IS THE MOST EASIEST THING EVER.
The rum (or cognac if you prefer) gives it a nice taste and since the alcohol is boiled off its still kid friendly :D
Curry Sausage (Curry wurst) is a very popular German snack/fast food on the go. Its easy to make, kids love and its cheap!
I'm using hotdogs in this recipe but any type of brats, breakfast sausages and franks will work great with this sauce.
This is a creamy crunchy cabbage salad my family in Germany makes.
I used half and half in this recipe but it also tastes very yummy with cream. I have also made the salad with evaporated milk before.
I prefer a subtle bacon flavor, therefore I use oil instead of the bacon drippings but you can substitute these if you like.
