"In my quest to find recipes to take advantage of the bumper crop of basil I have right now, I came across this one found in the May 2003 issue of Sunset magazine. This is very refreshing! It's especially fun if you have lots of different varieties of basil available to you."

"What a 5-star delicious recipe! I'd never heard of basil lemonade before, but thought I'd give it a shot. I doubled the recipe and got the batch good & cold; the end result was fantastic! A very magical & refreshing drink. Definitely a keeper! Thanks for sharing this one! :)"
"Made this today for Dad who is sick and has a very bitter after taste on his tongue (not that you guys really needed to know that, but you will see why...pls read on). I used thai sweet basil, and man was this good....I had full use of my tastebuds and this was to die for...but the absolute compliment is this! Dad loved it!!! He found it really refreshing...and he really enjoyed the taste though his tastebuds are exactly normal!!! And Judy thank yoU!! He said that the tea helped with his tastebuds, and his tongue felt normal after that. Thank you for helping dad!! Dad said give the lady 100 stars!! "
"I like this drink and I have heaps of sweet basil and Thai basil in my garden. Good concoction for a tropical summer!"
"I agree with both the former reviewers of this recipe. This is a wonderful refreshing lemonade and one that is not too sweet as well. I used fresh green Indian basil leaves from my garden to make this. We've loved every sip! Thank you so much. I'll be making ALOT of this now on;-)"
"A perfect recipe for summer basil. Tastes refreshing, almost like a mint lemonade. Great drink to serve at parties!"
"Very refreshing and not too sweet. A great summertime beverage!"
"This was a nice twist on lemonade and I'm sure I'll make it again. Thanks for a nice refreshing recipe."
"I wasn't crazy about the basil flavor, but it smelled really good. And it's very refreshing."
"Wonderful recipe. I'm a huge fan of basil, so I added a lot extra. I had far too much basil left in my garden, but after finding this recipe I wish I had more."
"This was very good. I would use less basil next time though. It was very refreshing and thirst quenching. Thanks for sharing."
"I have never had basil before so I wasn't quite sure what this was going to taste like. I do like lemonade though and thought this would be a good chance for me to taste basil since I always like trying new things. The basil definitely gave the lemonade a different taste. I think I like lemonade better without the basil, but this was a good learning experience for me since I know what kind of flavor basil has now. Thanks for the recipe! Made for Spring PAC '09"
"Lemon Basil Lemonade is awesome! I use crystal light lemonade and use a wooden spoon to bruise/mash the basil leaves."
"This is a very nice twist on lemonade. I used fresh lemons, and the flavor of the basil really works well. It is a breeze to make - I actually never made fresh lemonade before. Thanks for posting, I was glad to find such a unique use for basil! Made for Herb/Spice of the Month in the Gardening Forum."
"What an unexpected pleasure! I thought basil would taste strange in a sweet drink, but we really enjoyed this. Made it with an equal amount of bottled lemon juice and found it a little too concentrated -- adding a little more water remedied that and it was perfect!"
"I, too, have a bumper crop of basil this early in the summer. I was sooooo tired of pesto that I did a search HERE to see if there was anything else to do with basil. What a find I made in seeing this recipe!!! :) I read all the reviews and made it with opal basil/limes and have found "Heaven in a Glass!" I've since shared the recipe with 5 other friends who also are as mad-crazy-crazy for this recipe! I've also used Lime-flavoured sparkling water instead of still and it's just as great/possibly better with the sparkling water! Now, I can't wait to try this with cinnamon basil/tangerine juice and lemon basil/lemon juice. Thank YOU, Hey Jude, for a new lifelong favourite!"
"This is a wonderful change from regular lemonade and a great way to use up your surplus basil!!!"
"Try this with limes instead! Super yummy!"
"Unusual but absolutely delicious and very refreshing! I have lemons and basil in my backyard right now, and thought I'd give it a try. I did add a bit more sugar for my tastes. I love the suggestions with other varieties of basil..maybe next year! Thanks for posting!"
"This stuff is delicious! Adding some triple sec or tequila gives it a nice taste as well. Will definitely be serving at our next party."
"I'm not a lemonade fan but my brother served it and I was hooked. I mush up the basil & sugar in a mortar/pestle until it's almost a paste. More flavor! "
