"This is a "basic" beef stew recipe. Please feel free to add your favorite herbs, spices and vegetables to make this recipe "your own". Serve with crusty bread and a tossed green salad for a complete meal."

"This stew has a wonderful flavor. We used peas instead of green beans and a Merlot for the wine. It was quite easy to prepare, and we will definitely make it again."
"Excellent stew.Even my 'stew-hating' husband loved it.I have been looking for a no tomato stew recipe for years, this one is it.It has wonderful, down home flavor, just like grandma used to make."
"Yum! The meat was tender and the gravy was flavorful. Thank you."
"Perfect! The only thing I did differently was coat the beef in seasoned flour before browning it so the stew would thicken up a little as it cooked. Almost as good as grandma's :) Thanks."
"I was looking for a beef stew recipe close to my Mom's. She didnt write her's down. This is the one! We leave out the potatoes in the pot and serve over mashed potatoes instead. I added a cup and a half of frozen pees 10 minutes before the end."
"Really tasty "basic" beef stew :) I did use more onions and garlic and browned some of the celery with the beef and onions. Otherwise pretty much followed the recipe, the cooking time was just right, which never happens to me. LOL. Thanks Dee :)"
"I made this for DBF as I do not eat stew of any kind and he said it was good, but not the best he's ever had, hence the 4 stars. He did say however, that he would definitely want this again. I follwed the recipe exactly. I didnt cut up the stew beef when I bought it from the store so it was in big chunks, which may have had something to do with the way DBF felt. Next time I will cut the beef chunks into smaller pieces. Thanks for posting!"
"This is a great recipe for beef stew, especially if you don't want a tomatoe taste. Its wonderful! DH just loved it. I used 1 can beef broth and added 3cups of beef bouillon and cooked it slowly for 3hrs. adding vegetables along the way, leaving green beans last ( I used canned green beans) I plan on making a vegetable casserole with the lefted overs, putting homemade biscuits on top tomorrow. Thanks for sharing this tasty and wonderful beef stew. "
"I used the peas instead of green beans and added green pepper, parsley, additional garlic, and a small bay leaf. It was even better the second day. Served with granny rolls with butter and a green salad. "
"I wish I could give MORE stars to this - this is FAB!!!! I followed the recipe to a T - except, I had a pork roast to use and not a beef, so it also makes a GREAT pork stew - (never did one before - but will again!) I did use the wine- smelled horrible when I put it in, but cooked up great!! Thank you for posting this - it is a keeper for me!!"
"I believe this is the best tasting stew I've ever had, Yummy! Thanks Dee514"
"Yummy!! i made this for a family dinner and everyone loved it. I used frozen Sweet Peas and baby carrots cut in half. I also used red wine and i didn't have any beef broth so i used Beef bouillon and water."
"I have cooked a few versions of beef stew but your variation took my eye while searching out new recipes at Zaar and I just had to try it. Let me tell you, my hubby & I were not disappointed with the results - it was absolutely D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S and the aroma while it was cooking.....mmmmmm. Dee514 you really outdid yourself with this one so here are 5 STARS coming your way."
