"This is my mother's bread recipe. She made it so often that she never had to look at any recipe - she knew it by "feel". She finally wrote it down and we are so glad she did since she passed away in 1980 at the age of 45. This recipe is pretty much in her own words - it is a guideline for all kinds of yeast bread items. Several variations follow the main recipe. Be sure to read it through before trying them out. She was a beautiful woman and a wonderful mother. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her. Whenever I make yeast bread, I think of her. I love you, Momma!"

"These rolls have a nice flavor, reminiscent of a dinner roll. Delicate but chewy texture also nice for sandwiches or just snacking on. They were nice and soft on the inside. I let them rise for about 20 minutes and then put them in the oven, they rose a bit more! I will be making them again very soon. Delicate but chewy texture also nice for sandwiches or just snacking on. I did a loaf the second time I did this. I made the dough in my bread machine then baked in my loaf pan for 24 min at 375*F. To me You get a bigger loaf that way and taste better to me.TIPS: I always beat the egg before I put it into the bread machine. Thank You for recipes!!! I can do my happy food dance!! NOW !! THANK YOU!!<br/>This clearly proves that you can teach an old dog new tricks!! Made for the 2013 Variety is the Spice of Life event"
"What a lovely bread recipe! I made the parker house rolls and look forward to trying some of the other variations as well. The dough seemed a bit sticky but plenty of flour on the board during the final kneading took care of that. Thanks also for keeping the recipe in your mom's own words - it was as enjoyable to read as it was to make! Thanks for sharing this recipe! Made for Variety Is The Spice Of Life 2013"
"These were so light and delicious! I chose the Parker house version and they were done baking in 20 mn, I always turn my bread half way through the baking time and they were almost done at 10! My oven must run hot! Thanks for sharing! Made for Variety is the spice of life game."
"I cheated. I used the ABM to prep the dough. First, the recipe was cut in half. Next I warmed the milk added the remaning ingredients and set the ABM to the DOUGH setting. Shaped the bread into four mini loaves and placed them into a buttered Wilton mini loaf pan with four chambers. The bread was then left to rise in a warm oven for close to 1 hour. Finally, I baked as directed for about 40 minutes. Delicious and perfectly shaped mini loaves. I was very happy with the results as much as I was absolutely charmed by the directions! "Carrie Your Mom sure knew how to cook. I chose this recipe as a tag in the 2013 Variety is the Spice of Life and had so much fun with it - I made 3 of the variations (it's a lot of dough) the regular bread, clover leaf and the flaky layers. From this recipe I learn new techniques for bread making and that was as much fun as the recipe was good. My dough also seemed really sticky and loose and was tempted to add more flour, but waiting for the kneading process and used plenty of flour and it came out great; light and fluffy with just a hint of a sweet background. Very good and I'll be using this recipe often and the techniques even more."
