"This is a German-style lentil soup, courtesy of Mrs. Rondinelli. It's pretty easy to make, most of the cook time is simmering on the stovetop. It sure hits the spot on those cold winter nights, although I enjoy this soup any time of the year. You can ask for a ham bone at most meat counters. *Prep time does not include soaking the lentils overnight."

"Absolute comfort food! I'm a lentil lover but have never tried a lentil soup exactly this way. Loved it and will definitely make it again! Thanks for sharing :)
Made for Oktoberfest of the Diabetic Forum 2011."
"Perfect soup! I used a ham neck bone instead of bacon, but other then that~ stayed true to the recipe. This is da bomb! I felt all cuddly and warm upon devouring it on Friday, and am so glad I picked this recipe for the first Octoberfest recipe. I can see making this over and over again, lentils are such a good food. This is good for the soul, try it! Made for Octoberfest Diabetic Forum 2011"
"Really fabulous soup! I loved it and will certainly make again. Made for ZWT 7."
"really good used ham stok instead of ham bone would be good in crock pot in winter time zaar 6 tour"
"5 stars, more if possible. I did this in my crockpot using browned mince beef instead of the diced bacon as I had none but had all the vegies needed. I used red lentils as they always work really well in the slow cooker. This is a fabulous healthy meal in a bowl. Made for ZWT 6."
"Loved it! This recipe is beyond 5 stars. Made as directed using ham hocks as that is what my grocer had to offer. This recipe is so classic and so delicious I'm so happy to have stumbled upon it here. Thanks, LifeIsGood! Made for I Recommend tag game."
"Pretty good! I did have to substitute fennel for the celery (I have a recent fondness for fennel, anyway :-) ) used 1 qt broth and 1 qt water and left out the bacon (didn't have any) but added some diced ham (leftover from Thanksgiving. Everyone liked it a lot. served with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese and dollop of non-fat greek yogurt."
