"This is definitely Southern USA and sooo good. Definitely comfort food."
"I have made Green Beans & Potatoes Like this for years.( Married 55 years) I use bacon, Ham or Salt pork. My mother & grandmother always made them like this , Delicious. Thanks for posting this recipe so that other people can enjoy green beans prepared like this."
"This is the way my grandmother always made green beans and potatoes. I used fresh green beans and varied slightly from the recipe, to try to eliminate fat. I used an equivalent amount of Canadian bacon and added a couple of teaspoons of ham base. Great summer side dish"
"I used fresh green beans with the recipe. This recipe reminded me of the way my mom cook green beans. Also, the recipe is easy to put together and don't take a long time to cook."
"Absolutely amazing. So good I wanted to do it again the next night. I know this may take away from the "Southern" aspect but I also added about a cup of roughly chopped onion, four cloves of crushed garlic and a can of Rotel tomatoes with grenn chilis. I like it a bit spicy. Thanks so much for posting."
"Delicious! I had to use canned green beans this time, but I will be sure to use fresh next time for a bit of added crispness. The smoked bacon adds so much flavor - don't cheat and use the regular kind as it just wouldn't turn out the same. Thanks!"
"Loved this! This will be a go to recipe when I need to use up bacon or smoked hocks. My mom told me she use to make this with little smokies and it turned out good too. I used fresh canned green beans from the garden and they cooked just fine. I thought it did need a generous helping of salt to bring out the best flavor. Thanks for posting this."
"This is awesome. The best green beans I have ever fixed. I used the ham hock. Everyone loved it. Thanks."
"This recipe should be in the "bible" of southern cooking!!! Delicious!! Easy to prepare and the flavor comes through, with just the right amount of sauciness from the water and potato. Nice and smoky! Thank you."
"Loved this! I was given bags full of fresh green beans and red potatoes. My fresh beans cooked for about 1 1/2 hours and the potatoes only took about 20 minutes. I did keep adding water as it evaporated. Thanks!"
"I've had this at about every southern family reunion and funeral I've ever been to. Really brought back a flood of memories and emotion. Love it. A classic that shall live on in my home. "
"Great dish! I made this for St. Patrick's Day, as I was going to a dinner where I was suppose to bring a vegetable "green" for the day - but I wanted potatoes to go with the meat. I have made my green beans this way for years - but had never added the potatoes previously! It was enjoyed by all!"
"Yuuuum! Used fresh green beans and bacon and cooked them both at the same time. Total cook time about 25 minutes. Just delicious."
