"I lived in Paris for 4 months and in Valladolid, Spain for 6 months as a student and in both cities, the traditional everyday breakfast was this (although some adults have black coffee rather than chocolate milk!). In Spain I lived with a local family and everyone had a variation of this breakfast each day. It really hits the spot and with some fruit it is a well-balanced breakfast. This is a great way for kids to have fun learning about other parts of the world and works well with a class of schoolchildren. I haven't specified amounts for the toppings as that's all down to personal taste."

"I used a homemade baguette Recipe #457974 and black raspberry jam. Ah, bistro heaven!"
France and Spain are a long way away from me these days..no more hopping across the Channel whenever we feel like it...so this was a real trip down memory lane for me...and one that I, and the children thoroughly enjoyed, and savoured.
Fantastic start to our day-thanks Shuzbud.
Made for THINK PINK-OCT '11"
"What's not to love?? This is simple, quick, delicious, and definately a kid pleaser! I wanted to serve it warm so I tried to buy a par-baked baguette, but was unable to get one. Instead, I bought a pack of par-baked dinner rolls, and they were perfect (I told the kids they were mini-baguettes! Lol). Made for ZWT7-Switzerland. (Vivacious Violets)"
"I love classic things like this. Very easy to throw together in the morning and awefully tasty. Made for Think Pink 2010."
"I had this for breakfast nearly every morning when I was visiting a farm near Lyon in the middle of France. The milk came straight from the goats and went into big wide mug/bowls where we added the chocolate to taste. The bread was delivered fresh every day and kept in a tall bread box on the floor. Dipping the bread was definitely the way to go. Thanks for posting this "recipe". It brought back such great memories for me."
"It would be pretty hard to find something to complain about with this one. We are lucky enough to have a shop across the road that sells warm French loaves in the morning. So, I went across and bought one of those and it was still warm by the time I slathered on my strawberry jam. It was yummy and the chocolate milk gave it a touch of whimsy which I enjoyed. Made for PAC spring 2010."
"I haven't had toast and jam or chocolate milk since my kids were little! What a treat this morning. I did use Apricot preserves because I didn't have the strawberry. This brought back lots of fond memories. Thanks for sharing."
"I had no idea this was French! It's not the first time I find my breakfast here. Had it with my mom's homemade strawberry jam. Can't remember when is the last time I had chocolate milk. DD will enjoy this too, I'm pretty sure. Thanks."
"Simple and tasty! I toasted my bread and enjoyed it so much with some chocolate soy milk! Thanks Shuzbud! Made for Everyday is a Holiday game."
"I made this with peach preserves instead of strawberry jam. Made for PAC Fall 09"
"This deceptively easy, delicious breakfast stunned me with it's simplicity. All my favorites: bread, butter, strawberries AND chocolate! :-) No way to go wrong! I toasted my baguette, for a bit of a crunch, smeared butter and jam over and devoured it! Perfect and so yummy! Thanks for sharing, Shuzbud."
