"Who said they didn't like sauerkraut? C'mere! I got something for ya'! (I'll make you a believer yet!) The dipping sauce I used in the pic is honey mustard, but you could use whatever you like."

"yummy! made these with (gasp) instant mashed potatoes! I used my ice cream scoop to make large balls. I took them to our "German themed Christmas Dinner" and everyone loved them (we ended up calling them German hush puppies)! Thanks Sue L!"
"SOOPERB!!!!! What a great way to disguise mashed taters! These little gems are sooooooo good and so easy to throw together. Made these to go with Karen Monahan's "Meat Cakes", #32973. YUM! Cut the ingredients in 1/2 and still had lots of "Balls" to go around! Thanks so much for sharing. Laudee C."
"I too cut the recipe in half, made them into appetizer sized balls, and baked them with panko instead of bread crumbs (just what I had). They freeze really well and can just be popped in the toaster oven when needed."
"We were going to an Oktoberfest birthday party so I needed something hardy and reminded me of fall. My mom is from the Czech Republic so we grew up on saurkraut and potato meals.<br/>When I saw these I had to give them a try. They were great! My husband was a little leary of trying them but once my daughter ate one and said "oh my God" those are great he had to try one as well. They were a big hit at the party. My husband made a special concoction of mustards as a dipping sauce. They are a lot of work and messy to make but it was worth the mess!"
"Everyone in the family loved these! Picky little girl didn't even know there was sauerkraut in them! ;) May make them a tad smaller next time for more crunch. Had all ingredients on hand too. Went great with our homemade sausage. Excellent dipped in mustard, ranch, bbq sauce, or ketchup or just plain! thanks sharing!!"
"These made up fast and disappeared fast! My picky, HATES sauerkraut teenage daughter loved these! I mixed mayonnaise and sweet hot mustard for the dipping sauce. I also used Panko bread crumbs which made the outside extra crispy and light. These are fast, cheap and delicious - definitely a keeper recipe!"
"I found this for my oktoberfest party. I did a dummy run, doing the recipe as it was and it was good. For the party I roughly doubled all the spices, probably more for the caraway seeds and I added freshly grated parmesan - maybe 2 tablespoons. I also used a combination of fresh and dried breadcrumbs. And they were really great - both the flavour and the texture I thought had some real wow factor. Everyone enjoyed them a lot."
"These are great. I make them every year for New Years. My husband and I think they are awesome. Love the crispness on the outside and creaminess of the potatoes on the inside. The kids even eat them."
"These were very nice. thanks"
"Loved these little balls. I made half a recipe for the two of us and only had two leftover by the time DH was finished. I put my potatoes through a ricer instead of mashing and was very quick. Very filling and went great with Pork Schnitzel."
"Wanted something a little different for New Years as we always have sauerkraut over mashed potatoes and found this recipe. This combines both those flavors and the outcome is delicious!! Served alongside a pork roast; this will be our new tradition for the holiday along with any other time we crave these which I think will be often. I did forget to put onion in, but still delicious.
Thank you Sue Lau for posting this recipe."
"I made these because I was assigned this dish for my book club. I would never have eaten them, never mind made them otherwise. I don't really care for sauerkraut. AMAZING! I also used a honey mustard dip, and left out the caraway, because I didn't have any, and never use it, so I didn't want to buy it just for this dish, I thought they were awesome, and so did everyone at book club. Many people commented that they don't like sauerkraut, but loved these. I made them about 2 hours ahead and just kept them warm in the oven until served. Thanks for a great recipe Sue!"
"VEry good! I ddint' want to deep fry (too expensive to use all that oil) so i made patties instead of balls and used half the amount of oil. Used half shortening h alf bacon fat. Superp!"
"ZWT6: Excellent little morsels - perfect for an appetizer or to serve alongside some Brats!"
"Made a German meal tonight & these were the stars! Cut recipe in half because there were only four of us. Easy but a little time consuming. Will make again."
"I loved these! They held together really well and were so tasty and filling. I didn't have any caraway seeds on hand, but made the rest of the recipe as directed. We ate them with honey mustard, as other reviewers have suggested, and I was surprised at how well they went together. Thanks for the recipe!"
"These were excellent! They go really good with Recipe #194174. We will be making them again. Thanks for the recipe."
"Excellent recipe, though I substituted matzo meal for the breadcrumbs."
"Great appie and a wonderful way to sneak veggies into the kids! I defrosted some of my marinara for the dipping sauce, and we had German/Italian fusion! Made 1/2 recipe (it scales down beautifully) for the Tour, 2008."
"I made these for a Super Bowl party and everyone loved them. Very flavorful and so different! I served them with a habanero and honey mustard. SO delish!"
