"Kid approved chicken & dumplings made in the crockpot, with easy ingredients to throw into the crockpot in the morning before work. My son says this is as good as his Grandma's, so it must be pretty good! Note: Prep time does not include cooking the chicken...use already prepared chicken."
Serving Size: 1 (371 g)
Servings Per Recipe: 5
"This was amazing, It was the very best Chicken & Dumplings I have ever had. The whole family loved it. After reading all the reviews I decide to double the recipe, so we would have leftovers. I am so glad I did. This was great thank you for sharing. I will surely be making this again, and very soon."
"LOVE IT!! My modifications are to add 2 boxes Purdue Grilled chicken strips (comes to about 5c per the package), and to use only 1 cup of water. Then I added 1/2 bag of mixed veggies and some Bouquet Garni. This literally takes 5 minutes to dump everything together after school, then we can all go running to sports, errands and WHATEVER and come home to a yummy dinner. Thanks for sharing!"
"My kids (15 & 17) circled the crock pot like vultures while waiting for it to finish. We loved it! There is a lot of liquid to this, but I took the top off like someone below recommended for the last 20 min. I used chicken broth as opposed to water & bouillon, & 2 cans of cream of chicken as we're not fans of cream of mushroom. I'm thinking next time I'll limit the broth to 1 and a half cans."
"Ok, we had mixed reviews on this one. Some thought it was too chickeny(?), I guess because of the cream of chicken soup and I think we were looking for a thinner broth type dish. I thought it was terribly easy to make (which is always a plus) and quite tasty. I used the smaller size Pillsbury biscuits (not the Grands) and dumplings were cooked great. Personally for my taste, next time I'll add more dumplings, as I think that is the best part!"
"We ALL enjoyed this, which is an almost impossible feat. This is how I remember my mom making her chicken & dumplings. I like that it's mainly just down home cooking without alot of different seasonings. I started late, so I cooked it on the stovetop, and then used Bisquik dumplings (my favorite) . Will DEFINITELY make again!!"
"This came out amazing! I wasn't sure how it would turn out with the bicuits, but wow! Yummmm! DH had 2 heaping platefuls. I made just as directed, but added some dried thyme, oregeno, dill, garlic powder, sliced carrots, and peas. I also used a whole rotisserie chicken so it was was super easy. Will definately be making this again :)"
"This is as close to comfort food as one can get. It reminded of grandma's famous homecooking at its best. This is very delicious, filling, and a sure family pleaser. And with so little effort, to boot, which is a big plus in my book. Thanks for sharing this recipe, breezermom. Made for 2009 Spring Pick-A-Chef. Mmmmmmm!"
"This was very good. Comfort food! I cut up uncooked chicken and let it cook in the slow cooker, which worked great. I also added some peas and carrots. The flavor is great and I love the biscuits. Mine actually browned and that was wonderful! The only reason I'm rating this lower is because mine came out more like a soup (which my husband does not like). I ended up mixing some more flour with water and adding it to the finished product. Thank you for posting a nice comfort food recipe!"
"This was so delightful and the aroma was heavenly! I couldn't wait for it to be done and taste it! I used 2 boxes of Perdue grilled chicken breast and the Pillsbury Grand biscuits (which were 8 count). I also added frozen mixed vegetables to make it a complete meal. Even though I stirred the biscuits in, they rose to the top. When it was finished, I had to separate them and mix them in again. This was very rich and full of flavor. I will definitely be enjoying this again. Made for Culinary Quest 2014."
"I followed the directions exactly and thought this was very tasty. Not quite as good as I remember my grandmother's, but that would not be possible. Better than Cracker Barrel though. Thanks for posting it."
"Delish! I had left over country gravy from our biscuits and gravy from the day before rather than the cans of cream chicken it was a hit my picky 4 year old ate it with no complaints and my husband who isnt fond of chicken and dumplings even asked to pack his some for work this morning with a grilled cheese i gave it four stars because I think the dumplings needed more cooking time they were still mushy after 1 hr so i cooked them 2 hrs and a half which made the chicken even more tender! mmmmm"
"This was very delicious and very easy to make. I did not use the chicken bouillion, just added a splash of chicken broth when the mixture got a little too thick. Instead of cooking chicken I used a package of /trader Joe's Just Chicken white meat chicken 12 ounce package and low sodium cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soups. I also added a package of frozen green peas 1 hour before the meal was completed.."
"This was excellent. I used all chicken broth instead of water. will be making again soon. thanks"
"Very nice comfort food that is extremely easy to prepare! I used fat free soups and added frozen peas, canned carrots and sauted onions to the mix. Was just what the family needed at the end of a January day! Mine was a little watery, maybe because of the fat free soups, but I left the lid off of the crockpot for the last half hour and that took care of it. Thanks!"
"Made half the recipe in my 1 1/2 qt crock, used 1 can cream of chicken, 4 oz can chunk chicken breast, added 8 oz can peas and carrots, 5 count can buttermilk biscuits. Very easy comfort food. Thanks for posting breezermom. Made for your win in Football Pool Week 15."
"Well, this could never replace my regular chicken and dumplings recipe, nor did I find it comparable to "Grandma's"--but it is a very good crock pot recipe. Very quick and easy recipe for those days when you just need some comfort food. I added a little extra water and was glad I did because the biscuits absorbed a lot of the liquid. I would definitely make this recipe again."
"When I was a kid, my grandmother/aunt always made me chicken and dumplings on my birthday, and although I don't think this is exactly like their homemade dumplings it came pretty close!! I was so impressed with the taste, especially considering how extremely easy it was. I used only cream of chicken soup (I hate mushrooms) and only 1 tsp chicken bouillon. Only thing I'll do differently next time is cut the recipe in half because the leftovers aren't quite as good and there's only 2 of us. Thanks so much for this recipe!!"
"Made this for supper tonite - DH thought it was very good and I will be making this again. I took a suggestion from another reviewer and broke up & stirred in the dumplings - this seemed to keep them from getting fluffy & airy - I think next time I'll just leave them alone on top. Thanks for posting."
"This was a hit with my husband who doesn't like chicken and dumplings!! Yeah!!! Now I can have chicken and dumplings on the family menu and it is SO easy to prepare. Thanks so much for this recipe : )"
"Great recipe! The second time I made it, I had to buy enough ingredients to double the batch so we would have leftovers. Reheats in a snap!"
