"This is so INEXPENSIVE and is on the table in 10 minutes flat. I made this frequently in college when on a tight budget. Feel free to use hot dogs, brats, polish sausage or whatever type of "dog" you like; these days I buy the more expensive hot dogs in natural casing from the butcher. You will find that the beer and potatoes some how take the bite out of the canned/tinned kraut. And now that I am an adult (don't laugh) I am thinking that some canned carrots would be great in here too! Serve with a side of horseradish sauce (I highly recommend Horseradish Sauce) for dipping, some dark bread and a cold glass of beer!"

"This was super easy and quite good. Made as directed, used the dill and the black pepper, felt it needed those spices. We used hot dogs, but I think polish sausages might add to the meal, will try that next time. Made for ZWT6"
"Holy cow! This is a great recipe! I love easy, delicious, and readily available dishes like this! Just wonderful! I used my own red potatoes, (cooked) and my own sauerkraut. Polish sausages would be a great addition too! Perfect! Made for ZWT6"
"Great taste, loved it!"
"I love mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and hot dogs so knew this would be a 5 star recipe! I used hot dogs and only added the caraway seed. Next time I will buy the sauerkraut with caraway seed and see how that works. If beer isnt on hand I think beef broth/stock would work very well as a substitute. Made and reveiwed for ZWT 6 - Seasoned Sailor and his Sassy Sirens."
"My picky 3 y/o ate it (and asked for seconds!) and that alone is enough for a 5 star rating. It was easy (and I got to use those cute little canned potatoes!), yet another reason for 5 stars. I forgot the beer and dill, and it still tasted awesome (comfort food!) and I think that makes for a total of about 15 stars... Seriously, I would probably double the number of potatoes because the 4 of us fought over them, and I wish sauerkraut came in smaller cans since my kids didn't want any (you should have seen the 1 y/o's face when I fed her a bite, it was priceless), but we will be making this again, and soon. We used polish sausages (hot dog length) and dipped in spicy brown mustard (my 3y/o ate his on a hot dog bun). I think I'll try that horseradish sauce next time--I was just too lazy this time. Thanks for a great Fall/Winter dinner we all love!"
"It was perfect for what I was looking for. Simple and quick. I only had one pack of brats so I added a pound of sausage to it and a drained can of rotel tomatoes. Next time I will add pineapples instead of tomatoes though. I like spice but the kids like sweet."
"This was great and SUPER easy. Plus you get to drink the other half of the beer while it's cooking. I used Keilbasa sausage, a sliced onion and my own potatoes. Still under 30 mins from start of prep to the table."
"Simple, oh-so-easy, and tasty! I used polish sausage, served with dijon mustard for dipping, and the whole family enjoyed! Thanks for a quick, tasty supper."
