"I got this recipe from the wife of a co-worker. It's a very simple cake, buttery & not too sweet -- perfect with seasonal fruit & whipped topping or ice cream."
Serving Size: 1 (63 g)
Servings Per Recipe: 12
"Great texture, but really salty. I would probably halve the salt. Other than that it was quite nice, though."
"Tonight, I had a craving for strawberry shortcake so I decided to try this recipe. This was an excellent and very easy recipe! I had everything on hand and was surprised that egg was not one of the ingredients listed. I will be making this shortcake again, however, I will use less salt. I thought it was a little too salty for me. I'm not a salt fan...Overall, great recipe. Thanks."
"Tender, sweet, delicious! Thanks.

***Addendum: I've made this so many times now, each time a great success. Our whole family just loves it. Thanks again."
"This is fantastic!! I took the reviewers advice and used slightly less salt. It came out beautifully. Everyone raved about it. The flavor is wonderful, and it's nice and moist. Yum!!"
"I halved the salt per others' suggestion. I think this would be better suited as a fruit pizza crust as it's a little too sweet for strawberry shortcake. Just my personal opinion, so I'm not faulting the recipe for that. Tastes like sugar cookies."
"I never thought a shortcake could be so good. I've made this at least a dozen times this summer. I've served it with strawberries and peaches. Give it a try."
"I love this cake! I eat it right out of the pan! Strawberries make it amazing. Thank you for the recipe!!"
"I agree, i will probably cut the salt in half next time. a little too salty for a sweet cake. and be careful not to cook for too long. at about sea level, i cut out a good 5-10 minutes cooking time. other than that it was super easy to make, and seemed to go over well. i added the strawberries and whipped cream to make a cute flag :)"
"Very easy to make and very pretty! I made it in a 9 1/2" tart pan. Perfect size to help so that the crumb topping does not get to heavy for it. This was great for shortcake. It would also be great for more of a cake style base for a fruit pizza or any quick tart you want to throw together."
"So quick and easy..and SO GOOD! Will definitely make this in the future. No need to find another recipe when this one is so easy and good! Thanks for sharing this gem!"
"This was good but the crumb topping was a little too heavy for the top of the cake and it caved in the middle. I liked it but will probably pursue other shortcake recipes in the future."
"Wow...very, very good will make this again and again. My husband loved it. Thank you for sharing."
"This is so good!!! I used a little extra vanilla. It is sweet, and the crumb top makes this one a winner with berries in my book!!!"
"I have been looking for a good shortcake recipe for years and finally found it! Thanks so much for sharing this, it is excellent!!!!"
"The best shortcake I have ever eaten. Moist on the inside with a crusty texture on the outside. No need to look for the best shortcake recipe, I've found it thanks to Mary."
"Wonderful melt in your mouth shortcake! My hubby does not like strawberries so I make him black or blueberry shortcake. He loves it! Thank you so much for posting!!!"
"SO YUMMY and EASY! I made this cake, a 9 x 13 pan- I used raspberries, and Ice cream... let me tell you, it was yummmmy! Most likely the best shortcake recipe I have come across- I will be using this again, thanks soo much! 5 stars! :)"
"PERFECTION! This is perhaps the best shortcake I've ever tasted or ever will taste. I only had Smart Balance Light instead of butter on hand and skim milk and was a little nervous. But it turned out beautifully. This will be a family favorite!"
"OMG Amazing!!! I cannot believe how moist and buttery it is. I was a bit skeptical at first because it didn't look "done" when I took it out of the oven - very light on top - but boy was I wrong - it was perfect!!"
