"This was an excellent and tasty casserole! I thought I had enough green beans, but I didn't. So I added some frozen carrots and peas. In the filling, I used sliced white onion, chopped green onion (My SO can't handle a lot of white onion), mozzarella and cheddar cheeses. For the topping, I made my own breadcrumbs (using wheat bread) and parmesan was the cheese. Thank you so much for the great recipe. I will make this again and again! :)"
"This meal was absolutely delicious! My family loved it!!! My husband who is a chef thought that this meal could use a little spiciness so he added a little hot sauce on the side and loved it. It was perfect for the kids who cannot eat spicy food. I follow the instructions as stated but I had to make a few changes that made it more flavorful. 1). I added Panko instead of breadcrumbs.
2. I seasoned the meat very well because the mash potatoes and green beans are already blend.
3. I added 2-3 tbsp of Velveeta cheese to give it the creamy consistency that I was looking for.
4. I used french style greens beans instead of whole (this makes a huge difference). The presentation is beautiful and the Panko give it that little crunch that you need. Ummm So Good!"
"This was great! I was looking for a way to use our leftover potatoes and didn't have much time, but this took very little time and the whole family loved it (including the 11 mo. old and 3 year old twins :) I used ground turkey instead of ground beef, and frozen peas and broccoli instead of green beans, and added plenty of garlic and worcestershire to the beef. I especially liked that this recipe didn't call for canned soup that has MSG in it. Will definitely make this again."
"Wonderful recipe that our whole family loved. Like a Shepherd's Pie, but tastier somehow. We did substitute frozen corn and peas for the green beans due to personal preference, and used shredded cheese instead of the cheese slices. We also add parmesan cheese to our mashed potatoes, it was yummy. Thank you for a great recipe!"
"Yum!! I used up some odds and ends from the fridge so my recipe varied a bit from the the one you posted. To me, that's what makes your recipe 5 star, because it would be really hard to mess it up. I used ground turkey and added garlic and some teriyaki sauce that I wanted to use up, the frozen green beans called for, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, and some over the top decadent mashed potatoes that I had leftover from another meal. The casserole turned out great. Thanks for posting!"
"Wow, amazing. This is a really great combo for a family. It is tasty and resilient to changes. I made some minor tweaks and changes (eye-balled the amounts, etc), and everything came out great. The kids loved it and it was easy to make. Highly recommended!"
"I went a little crazy making modifications to this, based on what I had on hand, our own palate, and a tad of laziness...Doubled this and baked in a 9" x 13" glass casserole pan. This recipe REALLY adapts to what you have on hand. VERY forgiving recipe!<br/><br/>I just chopped my onion and cooked it with the ground beef (the laziness factor here). Added a tablespoon of red pepper flakes to the cooking meat and onions and 3 cloves of minced garlic - the kitchen smelled HEAVENLY (the palate thing...) After I drained the meat, I added a few tablespoons of parmesan.<br/><br/>Didn't have any "orange" cheese, so I subbed about 2 cups of shredded mozzarella. <br/><br/>Wanted lots of veg and color, so I added some cooked, diced carrots on top of the green beans.<br/><br/>Added 1/4 cup parmesan to the mashed potatoes, a teaspoon of salt, a few shakes of pepper and 1/2 tablespoon of dried parsley. Topped it with a generous amount of paprika. Baked 40 minutes. Served with a green salad.<br/><br/>It was really tasty and lunch will be a breeze tomorrow! Can hardly wait! Thanks for posting...I'll be making this again and again...YUM!"
"Pretty tasty. It's definitely a good idea to put your own spin on this recipe, because as is it might end up tasting bland. I used lean ground turkey, and flavored it with a bit of BBQ sauce, 1/4 cup of chicken broth, crushed garlic, and a chopped serrano pepper. For the mashed potatoes, I made them how I usually do: with chives and parsley, and a good amount of garlic salt and paprika. I skipped the onions and all of the cheese except for some parmesan on top, but the flavor was still great."
