"A frosting just like the bakeries use on their cakes and there is no refrigeration required--it may be kept for 3 months covered in the refrigerator just bring to room temperature before using. Recipe yields 8 cups of frosting. You will love this!"

"I have made this 2 times in the past week. it is my new go-to frosting recipe. I use it for everything from fancy retirement party cakes to simple cupcakes.
I like to use 1 1/2 cups shortening and 1/2 cup butter. This gives a nicer flavor and mouthfeel. I only use vanilla, no almond, and get rave reviews. This holds up very well to piping, spreading and decorating. For chocolate, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup cocoa powder. Thanks!"
"I made this frosting, and used it to fill Moist chocolate cupcakes-super easy-budget #287618, they tasted just like a Hostess Suzy Q. this frosting is light and creamy and makes an AWESOME filling!"
"Wonderful recipe. I used it on a "Spyro Castle" cake I made for my son's birthday and took to a waterpark! It withstood the heat like a champ. It was a little hard to decorate with, but I think that is bacause I got the icing a little too soft and didn't want to mess with thicking & messing up the color I had already mixed. Def adding this one to fav's! Thank you for saving the day!"
"OK - I know it's a cardinal sin to give a 5 star when you alter a recipe but, I don't care! I was provided a basis for a perfect frosting & it was amazing! As someone else recommended, I subbed 1/2 cup for butter (earth balance). I then I used 1 tsp clear vanilla. Since it didn't appear vanillaie enough for me I added 1/2 tsp regular vanilla. The whole basis of the recipe was awesome! it was enough for me to frost 62 cupcakes. Since I had a bit left over, I measured how much I put on each one and it was approximately 1-1/2 Tbsp (see pic w/cupcakes in box - there are 35 cupcakes in that box!). Thanks for the recipe Kitten!"
"Wonderful. Thanks Kittencal. I always look for your recipes because you never disappoint."
"I was looking for a frosting that you did not have to refrigerate and this works well. Very easy to make, taste is good. So is the consistency. Was easy to frost and my (lol) version of decorate. I did however cut the shortening to 1 1/2 and used 1/2 cup softened butter. Also incorporated cocoa to cut the sweetness. Reserved some white to "decorate" with. I am working on that skill :D I will definitely use this frosting again."
"Love this frosting recipe! My daughter is allergic to almonds, so I use 1 tsp of vanilla extract and leave the almond one out -- works great!"
"This recipe is definitely going in my files. Had a similar one years ago and lost it. Anyway only change is to substitute a 1/2 cup butter for the shortening because definitely improves taste and does not affect texture."
"Perfect! I have used many icing recipes over the years looking for the perfect one...this is it!"
"I was looking for a non-dairy frosting recipe because I had never made one, and this is delicious. I think I'm going to make it again today to go on chocolate filled chocolate cupcakes. :)"
"Wonderful recipe........... I used butter flavored Crisco and only vanilla for flavoring. Turned out beautifully. Tastes just like what you buy at a bakery. I made 20 cupcakes and used half a batch for my daughters birthday cupcakes. Thanks for a great recipe!!!!"
"I was really excited to try this recipe, being dairy-free and with rave reviews. My son has a milk and egg allergy, and although I've used other frosting recipes satisfactorily, I thought I'd look for a new one.
I bought what I needed, and am really disappointed to find that Coffee-Mate "non-dairy" creamer is NOT TRULY DAIRY-FREE, since it contains sodium caseinate. That's a deal breaker for all people allergic to milk. Apparently gov't regulations allow it to be technically labelled dairy-free despite the ingredients. So for those (few, perhaps) allergic to milk, just a word of caution. There are some powdered soy creamers out there, but I haven't seen any nor have the time now to shop. I'd love to try this recipe sometime in the future, but I'll have to stick with my previous ones instead."
"I used this to make a fuzzy design on my caterpillar cake...made it just a little runnier than needed but otherwise great. Mum loved it!!"
"This deserves 20 bazillion stars!! I have been searching for THIS PARTICULAR recipe- one that's just perfect for decorating- I will use this from now on ( now I can work on my decorating SKILLS!!) -"
"Absolutely awesome! It made a large batch. I doubled it in my 6qt kitchen aid and it was smooth as silk. I substituted the almond (yuk) and used a combination of butter, orange and lemon extract. Absolutely to DIE for. And I make a BUNCH of cakes for my shop. Thank you for sharing it. Its my go to. (PS. it make a difference using a generic coffee creamer instead of Coffee Mate. In flavor and texture. Also use a Viva paper towel to smooth the surface of your cakes...its beautiful)"
"I was looking for an icing recipe that was more like a bakery's icing(light and fluffy) but still had the taste I love of cream cheese. I tried this recipe with 1/2 the cream cheese and1/2 the shortening and I was so impressed I will use it on a wedding cake I am making next month. Wow the perfect tasting and consistency lasting icing ever. I will use this over and over again. Thanks"
"This deserves 5 stars simply because I can have frosting ready at my finger-tips for a very long time. I did not care for the almond flavoring, so next time I will leave it out."
"I am an experienced cake decorator - who was looking for a non dairy frosting recipe. This recipe was awesome - I did substitute butter extract for almond though"
"This is the recipe for frosting I have been looking for. I will not ever buy store frosting again. Thanks!!!! Yummy"
"This was a great recipe - you can add all kinds of flavors to this recipe- very yummy and easy - I did not use Almond because I just forgot, but even great without it - Thanks for another great great 5 star recipe"
