"From his anti-aging show on Oprah. I originally posted it as given on Oprah's show, but updated it with information from her website. Original posting: * 4 stalks celery * 1 cucumber * 1 cup spinach * 1 lemon, juice of * 1 lime, juice of * 1 large apple * 1/2 inch piece fresh ginger (peeled)"
Serving Size: 1 (229 g)
Servings Per Recipe: 3
"This is such a wonderful healthy drink! I like your recipe better than one I was given from a magazine...your amounts are a bit more precise. When I make it, I use a bit more celery and I also add frozen, chopped mangoes (or berries if I have them on hand). The trick for a smoother consistency and easier blender clean-up is in the order you add the ingredients. Lemon/lime juice, cucumber (BLEND), peeled and chopped apples (BLEND), chopped celery, ginger (BLEND), frozen fruit (BLEND), parsley (BLEND), spinach (BLEND).
To clean up, just put some water in the blender, cover, and pulse to loosen all the bits. I think the most annoying part is washing the veggies! :o)"
"I love this drink, it is very refreshing! I add just a little extra ginger. I drink this in the morning for breakfast, It is very satisfying and highly alkaline. My doctor has recommended that I follow the anti-inflammatory diet since I have high active levels of Eptein Barr Virus in my system. This drink fits right in, it helps give me a sustained energy. This drink does take about 10 minutes to make (including clean up), but it's well worth it."
"This was very thick, but quite tasty (if you like veggies)! I added both the carrots and the bananas. Next time I will probably add some honey, just for flavor. I think I'll keep this one around for a while! Enjoy!"
"This did not go smooth in my blender but it is still so healthy. I did not add cucumber as I didn't have any. I upped the ginger, added some honey and used apple juice instead of apples because I wasn't using a juicer. I just used freshly squeezed lemon and no lime and perrier water for the mineral water. I will make this again. Especially because of Chef #1272082's review."
"This is missing some stuff. here's the real recipe, which is great. 2 cups spinach 2 cups cucumber 1 stalk of celery 1/2 inch or teaspoon ginger root 1 bunch parsley 2 apples Juice of 1 lime Juice of 1/2 lemon After everything is combined in a blender, this recipe makes 28 to 30 ounces–about three to four servings. This will be very thick and you may need to add water - If you have a juicer this may work better."
"This drink is great, my boyfriend and I just made it. He tried it in the juicer and I tried it in the blender. I ended up using the jucier then blending it with ice in the blender. Also I added Mint to mine and it was better. He added a whole lime and lemon and his was a bit more bitter, just use the juice."
"There's lots of Vitamin A and potassium in this recipe, but cleaning the juicer is a pain in the neck. The taste and health benefits are not worth the effort. These ingredients can be eaten daily in a variety of different, more simple ways. Dr. Oz says he drinks this every morning--I'm willing to bet he doesn't wash dishes at his house."
"I loved this drink, it really does taste like a glass of Fresh! It is kind of thick though I will try it next time by running everything through my juicer instead of blender."
"This recipe was revived again on the Dr. Oz show recently so I decided to give it a go. It's different but I found myself really liking it, so I drank the shake for both breakfast and lunch. It really does keep your energy going! This was a happy little benefit for someone like me who doesn't feel satisfied on a diet of fruits and veggies. On the second day, I added hemp seeds as a vegetarian source of protein and essential fatty acids. It also balanced the flavor IMO. Thanks for posting, now I can keep this in my recipe box =)"
"Not bad at all! A little tart and definitely will be an acquired taste. But what can you say when you're drinking vegetables through a straw. And supposedly good for you, more to come on that note..."
"Tried this drink this morning and I thought it was great! Going to add some soft tofu or peanut butter tomorrow morning for protein."
"I had a mild stroke in March of this year & my husband and I purchased a Vitamix so I could make healthy drinks and get more fruits/veggies in my diet. I found this recipe after doing a search and LOVE IT!
I have been drinking this almost daily for 2 1/2 months now, and while I haven't felt a "surge of energy" from it, I can tell you that the arthritis in my hands hasn't bothered me at all! My husband wasn't too "fond" of the drink at first, but continued to drink it knowing how healthy it was.
Now we both find we crave it when we don't drink it. I add enough water & ice to make it more liquid instead of thick and then we just drink this throughout the day. Our boys have even started drinking (and liking) it!"
"I was not crazy about this - made in my Vita Mix and maybe its better done in a juicer. I may play around with it to work on texture and add some sweetness."
"I know it's packed with healthy power but I didn't like it."
