"The ultimate mall fruity shake at home! I modified this recipe one day from one i found online. I have sensitive teeth so I don't like ice much anyway. Guaranteed not to give you "slushie headache"."
Serving Size: 1 (218 g)
Servings Per Recipe: 2
"I tried this recipe with strawberries I had frozen along with a cup of vanilla ice cream and a cup of small ice cubes in place of the water. It turned out cold and thick and was delicious! My teenagers loved it. Next time I'll make it using "Nutrasweet" in place of some of the sugar for myself."
"This recipe didn't pack enough strawberry flavor for me, so I doubled the number of strawberries and it was perfect!
I also used crushed ice instead of water, because I like the slushy texture. I also cut the sugar in half.
Good recipe, thank you!"
"My husband and I thought this was very good. We're going to surprise our teenagers with it. I will keep this recipe close at hand for the kids during spring and summer family gatherings, and also for when the strawberries I have on hand are just on the brink and I need to do something with them quick. My husband remarked how creamy this tasted. I used nonfat milk!"
"Absolutely delicious! I didn't have superfine or powdered sugar, so I pre-measured regular (crystal) sugar and then whirred it in the blender until it was a fine powder/dust. It made a HUGE difference, as does the vanilla. It's utterly uncanny how this recipe can take wholesome frozen strawberries and a few other pure ingredients and make them taste utterly processed and artificial. If I want a healthy smoothie, I'll make one, but this is the closest I've ever gotten to the mall Julius drinks after an almost-30-year quest. Thank you!!! (edited to add, made tonight with almond milk - still awesome!!!)"
"Heather this was good, but I much prefered this made with frozen sweetened strawberries. The frozen berries thicken up the strawberry julius just a bit. The last time I made this using frozen sweetened strawberries, was about 2 years ago, but I forgot to rate this recipe, and post my review. I had also added a bit more sugar, since I found my frozen berries weren't sweet enough. This was very good, and I'd like to thank you Heather for posting this recipe."
"I'm ashamed I haven't left a review sooner because we have been devoted fans of this recipe for a long time. My oldest son makes this for us, the only change being we use frozen strawberries. It's absolutely wonderful and refreshing -very close to the Strawberry Julius at the mall -but even cheaper and tastier! Thanks so much!"
"Super recipe. I followed the recipe exactly and since my processor handles ice, I opted for the 1/2 cup ice instead of water. It really does taste like a mall julius. "
"OMG, just tried this recipe yesterday as an after-school drink....YUMMY is all i can say! I also used frozen strawberries, added a banana (strawberry and banana drinks are my all time fav.) and used 1/2 cup water and added 3 large ice cubes, came out perfect!! I WILL be making this again (and again....and again....)"
"Very good. My strawberry loving kids loved it. I have two kids who don't like strawberries so they didn't try it. I used fresh strawberries and I used ice instead of water."
"Made this today for my kids and their friend and they LOVED it! Did substitute powdered sugar for regular sugar as others recommended. Also, added some ice to thicken up a bit since I had fresh strawberries, not frozen."
"My kids and I LOVE this! I used frozen strawberries in place of the fresh, but otherwise followed the recipe. The sugar balances out the strawberries perfectly!"
"Delicious..I doubled the recipe and added 1 cup froz. raspberries and 1 cup frozen strawberries along with 1 cup ice and 1 cup water. Will add a banana next time."
"This is sooooooooo good! I followed all directions with one exception. I threw a bunch of ice cubes in, not even sure how many. I've already been asked to make it several times. :)"
"My family loved these! They were nice and creamy, even with the nonfat milk. Very refreshing on a warm day. Thanks for sharing!"
"Very good! Nicely sweet without being overly sweet. I never went to the place at the mall (never saw one), but this is definitely a good drink for when you're in the mood for strawberries! Thanks!"
"OMG!! I used frozen strawberries, SKIM milk, BANANA extract, a few ice cubes, and 1/4 cup water. It was positively SCRUMMY!! My mom and I both LOVED this! It was sooooooo creamy and dreamy from the frozen berries and even from the SKIM milk! However, mom remarked on how the banana flavor was too overpowering. Maybe it should be scaled down to a 1/2 tsp because who has measuring spoons that measure in 3rds anyway? Anyway, thanks for the recipe. I adore it very much. Would be a perfect summer treat! I'm sure you can use OTHER fruits as well. Oh, the possibilities..."
"Needed an afternoon pick me up and found this recipe. So glad I did. It is awesome! I used frozen strawberries and sweet n low and followed the rest as written. So good! Thanks, Heather."
"This is an excellent drink and my family loves it so much, I have to double the recipe. Since I do double it, I use 1 part water and 1 part ice. This way, it's frosty and still blends easily. I also use frozen strawberries which lends to the thick, frosty consistency. The milk and sugar combine well to lend a taste of whipped cream having been added. All around outstanding!"
"When i made it it still had strawberry chunks no matter how long I blended it"
"Refreshing! Delicious! Easy! Healthy! What more could you want?!! I used 4 cups of fresh strawberries and didn't bother slicing them. I just cut the green tops off and threw them in my vitamix. Although I quadrupled the strawberries, I only doubled all the other measurements. I was afraid of 1) overflowing the vitamix, and 2) it being too liquidy. I am so glad I made that call. Even with only doubling the other ingredients it was still very thin. I thought it needed to be colder so I added 1 1/2 - 2 c of ice and blended that up. My whole family enjoyed this for dessert. Next time I think I will add a little bit of fresh lemon juice or orange juice to enhance the strawberry flavor."
