"If you only have plain breadcrumbs on hand, and your recipe calls for Italian breadcrumbs, what's a chef to do?!? Here's your solution - A recipe for turning unflavored breadcrumbs into flavorful Italian breadcrumbs. This works equally well with gluten-free or regular crumbs, pre-packaged or homemade."

"like others, thank you for saving me an extra trip to the store.. exactly what i needed"
"Great! I keep homemade bread crumbs (made from toasted leftover bread and run through the food processor) in the freezer, so this was easily put together for an Italian meatloaf. I love that you can both control the ingredients and make something better and less expensive than what's sold in stores. Thanks for sharing the recipe!"
"You saved me another trip to the grocery store! I used panko breadcrumbs & they turned out fabulous."
"This is excellent. I use these all the time now. Thanks"
"I had plain bread crumbs and needed to make italian season breadcrumbs. This recipe was a huge help and my gosh did my chicken parm come out good!!! I got the recipe for the chicken parm from another website but the bread crumb recipe from here made it so much better!! I will def be making this more often!"
"Once again, my bacon has been saved, so to speak. So easy when you know how. I coated some small flat fish with mayonaise and these bread crumbs and they smelled and tasted delicious. Might try them on some chicken next! Thanks Food.com :-)"
"I used this to make Chicken Parmesan. The recipe is simple and just as good as something you could purchase. Thanks!"
"Thanks for saving my dinner plans, only had plain breadcrumbs in the cupboard & needed Italian for my recipe...you saved me having to dash down the shops..Cheers!"
"Love this recipe! Must admit thaat I used it in a different way but the seasonings were just right! Instead of breadcrumbs I used matzo meal. I was making matzo balls for my chicken soup and wanted to shake up the flavor a bit. Usually the only herb I use is dill so this was different indeed! The other change I made was to decrease the salt to 1/4 tsp and increase the onion powder to 1/2."
"Excellent! I threw some sliced bread and the seasonings into my food processor. Took maybe a minute to make this. I figure was cost was really zero because I would have probably thrown out the bread and the seasonings would would probable go too if not used used up quick enough. Never will I by dry bread crumbs again! Cheap, easy, tasty! As a cook, everything I look for! I used it for recipe #34499 Awsome Baked Pork Chops, highly recommend!"
"Great recipe! I have a hard time getting my son to eat chicken. I coated some tenders in an egg wash and then with these breadcrumbs (I used fresh bread), then sauteed in butter and olive oil, and my son devoured it!! Anything that gets such a reaction surely deserves 5 stars. DH and I also loved the flavor and crispy texture. Thanks for a keeper that I'll use over and over. :-)"
"EXCELLENT! I made my own bread crumbs with some old bread in the frig and then used this recipe to top them off. I really didn't have the money to go out and buy any, but the best part was these turned out better than anything I could buy."
"Perfect! I substitute 100% whole wheat bread crumbs for plain, but other than that.....better than store bought! Absolutely perfect for # 19135!!"
"Yumm! these had a great flavor! We used to make Chicken Parmesan, recipe #19135 and the flavor was amazing. Thanks - this one's a keeper :)"
"I thought these were more flavorful than store-bought Italian breadcrumbs. I think from now on I will make my own. Thanks so much for the recipe!"
"Great idea! I had just plain bread crumbs and this saved me a trip to the shops Cheers !"
"Thank you! Loved the recipe and it will be used alot to season up my plain bread crumbs."
"I made these to use in my veggie burger recipe. They are very easy to make, and a fraction of the cost of store-bought. I made my own bread crumbs in the food processor, too, using whole wheat bread. I doubt that I will ever buy Italian bread crumbs again. Thank you so much for posting!"
"quick and easy!"
"This recipe saved dinner! I didnt have any plain breadcrumbs, so I just put 22 ritz crackers and all of the spices in my food processor until crumbly. It turned out great! Thanks!"
