"I tried this because I wanted to make beef stew, had a bunch of mushrooms to use, and forgot to buy tomato juice for my usual stew. I used button mushrooms, but I didn't have broth, so I used "Better than Boullion" and didn't add salt. I also added a few dashes of Cholula hot sauce at the end. The whole family loved the stew, although it was a bit salty from the boullion. I'll make this again using the low sodium broth as called for."
"This was a delicious stew! The consistency was just how I like it (nice and thick but not pasty). I'm not a fan of beef stews containing tomato ingredients, and the red wine and cremini mushrooms were a nice touch. I cut this recipe in half, as I'm cooking for myself only, and I still have leftovers for the freezer. I will definitely make this again!"

"My whole family loves this stew! Delicious! I cooked the stew in two steps - finding 2 plus hours to stay and home and cook just doesn't work for me. The second step of adding the potatos and carrots was completed in the crockpot on low for about 5 hours. Worked out really well! Thanks for a great recipe!"
"I've been making beef stew for years but thought I'd try a new recipe, especially since hubby and I love mushrooms. This stew was delicious! I have to confess that I did add in about 3 Tbsp of tomato paste towards the end, but it certainly didn't need it. It was delicious without it - I just prefer the subtle little taste and I think it helps tenderize the meat even more. I usually don't use wine in my stew but will from now on, along with the mushrooms. If you've never made stew before, give this one a try. And if you HAVE made stew before, give this one a try anyway. You won't be sorry. And the little bit that was leftover was delicious the next day. Very yummy!"
