"Great recipe, although I used 1/2 c white sugar and 1/4 c brown sugar."
"I followed other reviewers' suggestions and cut the sugar, but I went down to 1/4 cup, and then used 1/4 cup of applesauce & agave nectar mixed. I also subbed two egg whites for the egg, a soy and whole wheat flour blend for the flour, and used canola oil instead of butter. And you know what? This was still phenomenal - only without the saturated fat and blood sugar spike! Thank you for posting!"
"WOW! This is unbelievably delicious! I doubled the recipe and baked it in a 9x13 dish. It baked into a cake-like layered apple dish that cuts nicely into squares for serving. Wonderful and so easy -- thanks for sharing Oolala!"
"Delicious!! Used 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar for the 1 cup sugar. Added 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg. Doubled the recipe to make in a 9 x 13 pan. Checked after 40 minutes and found I needed to add 1/2 cup apple cider, so the apples wouldn't dry out from baking. Checked in another 1/2 hour and all was done. Let it cool for 45 minutes and dug in. mmm....good!! Tried to mix the apples into the dough and couldn't get the job done, so decided to put the dough on top of the apples, like apple crisp, and bake. If you choose to try the apple crisp way, make sure the dough is sealed over the apples or the apples will dry out."
"I like that this comes together in a snap with ingredients I almost always have in the house. I was lazy so instead of cutting my apples into pretty wedges, I just cut them into chunks and stirred everything together. I also used half white splenda and half splenda brown sugar with excellent results. Of course, this dessert was extra fab with big scoop of butter pecan ice cream on top. Thank you for posting!"
"Made this for dinner with the in-laws. Everybody loved it. Hubby says make this again. I did add rasins. Otherwise followed the recipe. The ingredients are what you would have on hand nothing expensive or exotic but turns out YUMMMM! Thanks for posting this. It was great served warm from the oven with whipped cream & ice cream."
"ooooohh my! just finished bakin' it and it smells wonderful coz of the cinnamon! and i added some raisins:) can't wait to taste it so, even if it's still hot am diggin' my fork in right now hehehe... the verdict --- yummmy! i made the sugar 1/2C refined white and 1/2C brown and it's perfect! just the right sweetness. thanks to you 0olala for this easy and tasty recipe:)"
"This was absolutely delicious! I halved the sugar and it was still sweet and wonderful. Thanks for the recipe!"
"Great recipe and very easy to do. I just served after the Thanksgiving dinner and everybody love it, I served with vanilla ice ceam and it turns out yummmmy,no need to change the ingredients."
"it was just perfect. i didn't feel the need to change anything!"
"An easy recipe to whip up. Made as directed--next time I will cut down on the sugar. A little too sweet for us, but still a nice apple dish."
"good right out of the oven"
"This is very easy to make. I used my apple peeler/ slicer so all I had to do was quarter the apple pieces. This tastes so good. Mine baked in 30 minutes. I used my cast iron au gratin pan so that may be why. Thanks for the recipe."
"Oh! This is soooo yummy! Just made it, it's hot out of the oven, and wonderful. Yes, it could be less sweet, but it's still a keeper by me! I made it as per the recipe this time. Next time I may try it with less sugar. We'll see... I don't eat sweet things on a regular basis (like once every couple of weeks or more), so when I get a taste for them, I make them & eat em! I know my family will love it. They are all in bed now."
"Great recipe, easy to make and delicious! Also halved the sugar and still tasted excellent!"
"Delicious! Halved the sugar and used white whole wheat flour and some oat bran. Got tactile and used my hands to mix this. Baked up in only 40 minutes, but the oven I'm using is old, old, old and unpredictable. Thanks for the great recipe!"
"Possibly this recipe doesn't work when Splenda is used in place of sugar? This was the only thing I subbed but there was very little batter compared to apples, and it came out clumpy and dry."
"The good news is, my husband adores this! The bad news is, he likes it more than my apple pie. Thank you! (I think)"
"Yum!! It was much better than expected. I thought it was going to be cake like. Not at all. I used 1/2 wheat flour. It was more like a apple crisp. Next time I may add a little carmel sauce. I will make again for sure!"
