"The sauce is the key to this recipe....HEAVY CREAM, PARMESAN CHEESE, WINE, etc. with CHICKEN & SHRIMP, cooking the penne pasta is the easy part. This recipe makes an ample amount, and too tricky for me to attempt to scale it down. I am posting it to take advantage of Recipezaar's calculations to reduce a recipe. I'm not sure how much this recipe feeds, but I am going to guess at 8-10 servings."

"I found this recipe on another website and have made it several times. It is perfect and feeds quite the crowd. I always make 1.5 the sauce then split it and put one casserole in the freezer for later since it's so time consuming. LOVE IT THOUGH!!"
"Oh wow! I couldn't tell that this was made at home -it was exactly like the Macaroni Grill's Penne Rustica. I did make some changes though - I used proscuitto (simply b/c that's what Macaroni Grill uses) and I opted to use roasted red peppers instead of the pimento. I also added a small amount (@ 1/2 tsp garlic powder to the sauce) and some emeril's essence. Wow this was ultra yummy!"
"I also made this for my BF and it was way too heavy. So this time I am cutting down on the butter and cream. I also tossed some fresh spinach into it and YUMMY."
"I made this last night with chicken marsala..delicious!! Thanks for the recipe. I fell in love with this dish after having it at Macaroni Grill!"
"I just finished making this recipe. It was delicious and I highly recommend it. I gave the recipe only four stars however because the proportions were a bit off. As some have mentioned there is WAY too much butter called for. I had to let some of the butter drain off while it was cooling down. Honestly I would probably use half the amount called for. Some people recommended not using as much cream which is definitely accurate. I made four servings which was plenty for four people, and I used 2 cups of cream. That was fine, but I could have gotten away with only 1 3/4 cups cream. Recipe took about two hours to make and cost me a little under $40 for four servings."
"I always order this when I go to Macaroni Grill so I wanted to try to make it at home. It was a lot of work and the recipe is not well written. It takes too long to make especially since you are using 8 cups of heavy cream and all that butter. Ours came out way too oily. It tasted good but we had to drain in all that oil..."
"This sounds like a great recipe.
People need to notice the content amounts and that it says a serving of 15.
Enter a lower number and the recipe will change."
"This sounds amazing! But, I looked at the fat content and I would have to starve for a week to make this worth it. I am afraid I would enjoy and there goes the heart and cholesterol. lol"
"Save your calories, eat salad for breakfast & lunch & chow down on this for dinner. I was so bad, made this, salad w/ balsaminc vinaigrette & a big glass of chianti. This is one of THE BEST recipes I've gotten on this site. Totally tastes like the real deal. My 3 yr old loves it AND my husband was like wow, this is restaurant quality!"
"Great recipe, I made a couple of changes based on what we had on hand. Substituted half and half for the heavy cream, more rosemary, six boneless chicken thighs coarse chopped, and I cut the shrimps into two pieces. Also added Mozzarella when it went in the oven. No pimentos. I used two boxes of whole grain penne. Everyone loved it and I'm amazed that this is fairly inexpensive to make."
"This turned out so good! My family loved it. I may try to cut the recipe in half next time. But it is very good!!"
"This recipe is time consuming, but well worth it. I cook for a group of church deacons once a month. I tried this recipe and received rave reviews. The flavor was spot on. I did however replace pimentos with sundried tomatoes in olive oil. I am cooking it again tonight for the family. Loved it!!!"
"I just reviewed this but realized I reviewed the wrong recipe. Sorry!"
"Calls for WAY too much cream. I would say use 6-7 cups MAX, instead of 8. Also, recipe is too heavy on the butter. Mine ended up very oily...Takes at least an hour to reduce the cream to half, and tack on another hour or so for the rest of the cooking. Overall, a very expensive recipe with somewhat disappointing results. I suggest adding in some tomato paste or something of the like for more flavor...I will not make this again."
"the taste is excellent to everything. The 4 stars is simply because the recipe is not very well written. Approx times and temp settings are not given, and the cook and prep times are wildly underestimated. Add those two together (20+50) and you still might not have reduced the 8 cups of cream by half. All in all a good copy of macaroni grill's dish."
"This was great. My grandkids loved it."
"Hubs and I really enjoyed this recipe. It seemed like a lot of pasta so we use half of all listed ingredients, and had plenty for leftovers. I used "heavy whipping" cream. I couldn't find the heavy cream, is it the same? The sauce seperated in the over, made I overcooked it? Still tasted great!"
"This is amazingly delicious and not too difficult to prepare. This is my favorite dish at Maaroni Grill, and this recipe tastes just like the restaurant."
"My boyfriend made this recipe tonight and I must say. Never NEVER use milk instead of cream. And remember to put corn starch in cold water and mix it before you add it to the sauce. *sigh* I apologize for such a travesty in the name of this great recipe."
