"This is old-fashioned, from scratch, comfort food. This has been a family favorite for years. I like to take this to other families when they are in need of a meal. It's always a winner. I like making it with leftover turkey, too! I often add some cooked diced potatoes."
Serving Size: 1 (290 g)

"Wonderful. I always add my own touches so this is what I did. A trick I learned years ago...if you are making a "wet" pie like a custard (pumpkin, etc.), brush the bottom crust with some egg white to seal it. Put it in the pan and brush it. Let it set a bit and then put your ingredients in. I added some fresh thyme and rosemary, sauteed mushrooms and pre-cooked litte potato cubes along with the veggies called for (pre-cooked). I also added some white wine and dry mustard. Brushed the top with an egg wash. Fantastic. A keeper!"
"I was skeptical about the reason between so many 5-star ratings - the recipe seems way to simple! But simple can be good, and this was great. It was easy to make, had easy ingredients, and was rich and tasty. I added a little poultry seasoning to mine, and made a biscuit topping since I only had one pie crust. I can't wait to try this again and experiment with different vegetables and seasonings."
"What a great & very easy recipe!! It was my first pie ever made & was a hit with the family.. I made mini pies just for snacks before lunch but every1 was asking for more! Cant wait to try it out again this time as a main course!!! Very Yummy :-)"
"This is one the best flavored and easiest chicken pot pies I've ever made. I've made it twice now since Thanksgiving, once with turkey leftovers and the other time with chicken, both were great. I did mine with fresh carrots, potatoes and frozen peas. Just cooked the potatoes and carrots a little before adding them to the sauce. Thanks so much!"
"This has been a go-to recipe for me for a while now. I have found that cooking a whole chicken (on the stove or in the crockpot) gives me enough chicken and broth for three pies. I make one pie the day I cook the chicken, and then I freeze the remaining chicken and broth in the amounts the recipe calls for, for later use when I need to put together a quick and healthy meal. Delicious!"
"Same recipe I've made for years. I put some seasoning - celery salt, dill, whatever, in the crust. A family favorite."
"This was a great recipe!! My DH does not like peas and frozen vegetables all have them, so I steamed up some carrots/mushrooms and cubed potatoes along with a bit of minced garlic. Next time we'll add some broccoli. Very easy to make and very flavorful! Thank you very much!"
"The best chicken pot pie I have found on the net. I made this for my husband's bday and since, he asks me when I am making it again. The only thing I did change was when I cooked my chicken in the skillet for the pie, I put poultry seasoning and a pinch if sage to add so more flavor. Thank you for your recipe. It is now one of our favs!"
"I made this for dinner tonight......it was FABULOUS.....the filling is delicious and it was easy to make.....my family loved it!!!"
"This is a great recipe! We doubled the recipe, used roasted chickens from the grocery store, and added a little sage since one of our guests has a pepper allergy, The sage gave it a nice flavor. My friend and I also do not like peas so I culled all the peas from one of the pies and added them to the other one. I also used a crust guard while cooking for the first 15 minutes."
"Simple and easy to make. I'm going to experiment with different veggie combinations. My son suggested adding cheese to the sauce. The possibilities are endless! That is not to suggest that something needs to be improved. It's a great recipe."
"Super simple recipe! I used the chicken breasts from the roast chicken you can get from Sams Club or Costco. I added diced potatoes and 1/2 tsp of dried thyme. I added 1/2 a large onion. I used 2 batches of Aida Mollenkamp's Perfectly Flaky Pie Crust. I brushed the top with an egg wash. Yum!"
"Excellent and so easy. I did include the potato. The chicken pot pie turns out perfectly and is so delicious. Thank you for an easy and satisfying comfort meal!"
"Great directions, great pot pie! I hate using canned cream of whatever soup, and this was truly homemade. My oven took about 40 minutes, but it's not a very good oven. Thanks for posting this recipe."
"This is a keeper. My family loves it. The only change I made was to add a few frozen peas and cooked potatoes cubed to the mixture as others suggested. This addition only makes it even better. Thanks for sharing this recipe."
"I'm not usually fond of recipes that use Cream of Chicken or some-such to add flavor to a recipe, so the fact that this does not use canned soup was a big plus. Even better, it tastes great! Also, it doesn't use heavy cream which I don't usually have on hand, the fat comes from butter which I always have in the fridge. I forgot to review this recipe when I first made it, so I'm doing that now as I'm preparing to make it again, tonight. I've got some Costco rotisserie chicken to use up and there's no better way than this very delicious dish. Thanks for posting this."
"Wonderful! I had a recipe like this years ago, but lost it in so many moves. I could never find one that was like this that called for the use of milk in the recipe until now. Thank you Charmie 777 for sharing this. This is my comfort food and I have it not just during the winter months, but also during the early part of summer."
"So simple, yet so delicious! I made it as a meal to take to a family dealing with illness and they loved it. I also added poultry seasoning as other reviewers suggested. I used california blend veggies! YUM! This recipe is definitely a keeper!"
"I have never made this recipe but it is just like my own except I use cream of celery or cream of chicken soup"
"Used this to transform leftover Thanksgiving turkey into an amazingly simple, quick, and tasty dish. My kids enjoyed helping to make and eat this one. I added some poultry seasoning. Turkey substitutes very well for chicken in this one."
