"My husbands friend gave us this recipe. He makes it all the time. He told us about it and gave us the recipe, we tried it and like it. So I thought I would share. I know there are other Tater Tot casseroles listed, but I did not see this one, so I posted it. This one came from a 4 ingredient cook book."
Serving Size: 1 (250 g)
Servings Per Recipe: 8
"Thanks so much for sharing. My four year old daughter loves this recipe. It is now her #1 favorite, she is always requesting it. I've made it for her about 4 times now. She has thirds every time I serve this! I love the fact that it is so easy to make. If I don't have the ingredients at home then I can stop and pick them up on my way home from work using the express lane and it so easy to remember the ingredients list. It is warm, gooey, and yummy. We like to use the mini tator tots.
Updated: forgot to add stars
2nd update: since the meat is fully cooked you only have to cook this dish for the time listed on the tator tot package. I usually cover it the majority of the time then remove the foil for the last 5 minutes. Much FASTER this way."
"Very good and quick to prepare. I added some diced onion to the hamburger meat while it browned. I agree with other reviewers that it needed a little more seasoning. Next time I will use cans of soup, and some lawry's seasoning salt to the meat mixture. This is a great starting point for a tater tot casserole! Thanks!"
"DH and I were really suprised at how much we enjoyed this. Five stars for Fast, Flavorful and Filling. Can't go wrong with this one!"
"I gave this recipe 4 stars. My future hubby and I really liked this recipe. This is such a simple and easy recipe to make. This also has a really good flavor for such a simple dish. The only change I made to this recipe was to use 1 pound of tater tots as that's what I had left to use up, but that was still plenty of tater tots. Overall I will so make these again for sure! Thanks for posting a really good recipe! Christine (internetnut)"
"Used 3 lbs venison burger, added the onion and garlic powder, and pepper when browning meat - once cooked through added 1 can crm of chix and 1 can crm of mushroom and 1/2 can of milk, Mixed in well with meat, placed half tots in bottom of pan, poured meat mix on top of tots, put shredded cheddar and velveeta mixture on top of meat, and topped it off with remaining tots. Excellent! My guy loved it and went for thirds. So fast, cheap, and easy!"
"What a very good fun meal to have for family. I would also like to add onion to it. As simple as it is that is just as simply it taste. Great !!! Thank You."
"Good easy recipe for the family. It could use just a little something extra though to spice it up."
"Have made this several times now and family always enjoys it! I used crm of chicken, (as we dont care for mushrooms), seasoned the beef while browning, and I also add cubed velveeta to the hamburger for extra cheesy flavor. Comfort food at it's best ! :)"
"We may just be a picky bunch, but this just didn't work out for us. We each had a serving but didn't enjoy it much. We threw out the rest. I guess we just prefer hamburgers and tater tots seperated. Thanks for the idea though!"
"Easy, yes ! But we didnt like this much. Really boring. I did add a chopped onion and garlic powder to the beef. But it was still too bland. I wold have preferred tater tots the normal way and a hamburger on the grill. I was kinda disappointed since it had some good reviews... I did additionally add 1/2 a can of cream of chicken soup with the cream of mushroom. Oh well - cant please us all LOL ."
"This is such a quick and easy recipe and very inexpensive. Thank you for posting."
"This has definitely become a family favorite around here. I have to triple the recipe for my brood. I add season salt and pepper while the ground beef is browning for flavor. We're not a spicy kind of family so this works well for us. Even my pickiest eaters eat this willingly and come back for seconds. It's great re-heated the next day as well. Definite comfort food!"
"This is one of those recipes that you can make as bland/spicy as you want. It would also be a great oamc meal. I personally used ground beef that I had cooked with onions/peppers and italian seasoning and froze previously (oamc) Then, I added shredded cheddar cheese, dried onion bits, salt, pepper and a little garlic on top of the soup. My kids loved it and the whole pan was gone in one meal."
"Made as directed but added chopped onion to the ground beef. This was sooo bland and dry. I couldn't even tell there was anything other than ground beef and tater tots.......this recipe needs some major overhauling. It seriously had no taste. Sorry to leave a bad review but I use my reviews as future reference."
"What a great, quick and easy recipe.! I always keep cooked, ground turkey in the freezer so this is one of the fastest meals on my menu. Also, it's so easy anyone in the family can make it if I'm not home. Thanks for sharing. I love it!"
"I seasoned my beef while cooking it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. And it was great having the left overs in the fridge for everybody when I had my 2nd child."
"I love this recipe. I used to eat tater tot casserole all the time when I was younger. So one day when I was craving it and wanted to cook it at home I looked up the recipe and stumbled upon this post. Though it was a pretty good first try, but I would definitely make a few alterations. I would add onion to the ground beef along with garlic powder just to give it a little more flavor. I would also use more than one can of cream of mushroom. I barely had enough to cover all of my ground beef with just one can. I also use 2 cups of cheese. I know it's not as healthy but it makes it taste so much better. I use one cup before I add the frozen tater tots and then another cup when I uncover it. I just sprinkle the cheese on top and it comes out bubbly and delicious :)"
"Made this 2 times.
1. With ground beef.
2. Tonight with turkey meat.
I DEF. Prefer ground beef with this recipe, It gives it more flavor. I just made it for the 2nd time tonight with turkey meat. Overall I love this! & the only changes I made was preheated the oven & set the time to what it said on the bag of tator tots & added some seasoning for taste."
"Very easy to make. My (very picky,) husband LOVED IT, my step-son said it was good but only ate until the tots were gone leaving the remaining meat, I thought it was "O-K"."
"Really quick and easy recipe. Gone in a matter of minutes at a church function. Really great taste."
