Oven Swiss Steak

Ingredients

    1. 2 lbs swiss steak or 2 lbs round steaks
    2. 1/2 cup flour
    3. 1 teaspoon salt
    4. 1/2 tablespoon black pepper
    5. 1 medium onion, sliced and separated into rings
    6. 2 large carrots, thinly sliced
    7. 2 stalks celery, thinly sliced
    8. 1 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes, undraind
    9. 1 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
    10. 8 ounces water
    11. 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
    12. hot mashed potatoes

Directions

  1. Heat oil in large skillet.
  2. Combine flour, salt and pepper.
  3. Cut steak into 4 or 5 servings; dredge in flour mixture.
  4. Brown on both sides in hot oil; remove to large baking dish.
  5. Place vegetables over steak; pour tomatoes, tomato sauce, water and Worcestershire over all.
  6. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2- 2 hours, or until meat is tender.
  7. Serve with sauce spooned over the mashed potatoes.
