Creole Hot Green Beans

Ingredients

    1. 2 1/4 cups water
    2. 3/4 cup white vinegar
    3. 2 tablespoons sugar
    4. 1 tablespoon crushed mustard seeds
    5. 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
    6. 3 bay leaves
    7. 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
    8. 1 1/2 teaspoons Tabasco sauce
    9. 1 lb trimmed green beans

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, stir together the water, vinegar, sugar, mustard seeds, garlic, bay leaves, salt and tabasco sauce.
  2. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the beans.
  4. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, until tender-crisp.
  5. Arrange the beans in a shallow dish and cover them completely with the vinegar mixture.
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Serve cold.
