Ingredients

    1. 1 cup sugar
    2. 1 cup water
    3. 1 cup dry red wine
    4. 1 small cinnamon stick
    5. 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    6. 4 firm ripe pears, pared stem intact

Directions

  1. Combine all except pears in saucepan. Boil till sugar is dissolved then add pears.
  2. Cover and cook 8-10 minutes turning occasionally.
  3. When pears are barely tender remove from syrup and put in individual serving bowls.
  4. Boil remaining syrup rapidly uncovered until reduced to 1 cup. Pour over pears.
  5. Let cool before serving or serve chilled.
