Whole Wheat Biscuits

Ingredients

    1. 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
    2. 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    3. 1 tablespoon baking powder
    4. 1/2 teaspoon salt
    5. 2 tablespoons margarine or 2 tablespoons butter
    6. 1 cup skim milk

    for herb biscuits

    1. 1/4 teaspoon basil
    2. 1/4 teaspoon thyme
    3. 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Directions

  1. Combine flours, baking powder and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cut in margarine with a pastry blender or 2 knives.
  3. Add milk, mix quickly.
  4. Turn out onto a floured board.
  5. Knead 6 to 8 times.
  6. Roll 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Cut into 12, 2 inch round biscuits or into wedges or squares.
  8. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  9. Bake in a 425°F oven 12 to 15 minutes until lightly browned.
  10. For herb biscuits, add basil, thyme and parsley to dry ingredients.
  11. (These make great dumplings).
