I had made this bread a long time ago and had misplaced the recipe so I am delighted to find it here. I never have the sunflower seeds so leave them out and it is still wonderful. I love it with a bowl of chili.

I made this hearty loaf in my Kitchen Aid mixer and it was great! I shaped the loaves into rounds and decorated the tops with leaves and vines made from the same dough. Really made it hit at a family gathering we had recently. I use the rapid mix method and find that most loaves are lighter if I let them rise in my oven with just the light on. NO heat. The trick to nice light bread is not to hurry! This is excellent bread. Thanks!

I made this in the bread machine using the dough cycle and then baked in the oven in small rustic shaped loaves. I found the texture a bit dense, but the flavor was great. It sliced nicely. Thank you for sharing your recipe! Reviewed for Pick A Chef 2007.
