I do all our home canning and this recipe is geared towards using those jars! I am able to use canned tomatoes and black beans so the ingredients will reflect either pints or quarts for measurements. This recipe freezes well.

Made this for dinner after a very busy day. It went together quickly and easily. I do not can, so I used organic canned tomatoes instead. This is the first time I have used black beans in a chili. I normally do not like them, but chose this recipe for my daughter who loves them. She was very happy, and I was pleasantly surprised, even with black beans it was delicious. The only person in the family who did not care for the recipe was DH...he said it had to much tomato.

  1. In large saucepan brown beef and onion until meat is done. Drain.
  2. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer for 20 minutes until heated through and slightly thickened.
  3. Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips if desired.
