Needed a couple more minutes since I made them kinda big. I used both 1/2 tsp vanilla and zest of a whole orange from my yard. Soooo great! Orange is my new secret ingredient! Snuck in some flax too.

Yummy! I baked mine about 12 minutes and they turned out perfectly chewy. My family could hardly let these cool before they were taking them "off my hands". Thanks for sharing!

The family loved these cookies, but we are big butterscotch fans,,,unfortunately I couldn't have any as they are not gf, however, I have a cunning plan involving buckwheat and gf flour. Thank you for sharing.

I scored this as a "2-star" recipe, only to make it stand out...I think that it could be a "5-star" cookie, with just a few small changes that some of the other reviews posted on already. I agree with the first few reviews... I made the recipe "as is", and it seemed a little too sweet, and a little too "thick" with oats. It's a good "base" recipe, but the next time I try it, I think I would follow the suggestions of others. Cut each sugar back to 1/2c. each, and decrease the oats by 1 cup, and increase the flour. I also started baking the cookies on parchment, and that seemd to bake them better. They didn't turn out so thin/falling apart on me.

A classic! I got rave reviews on these cookies. I prefer a softer, chewy cookie, but if you love a crisp cookie, these are the ones for you. The flavor was excellent. Good with both coffee and milk. Make sure you don't let them cool on the cookie sheets too long or you'll never get them off. But, the crumbled cookies make an excellent ice cream topping. :)

Very good; noticed it was the same recipe on the back of my butterscotch chips! I only had 2 cups of oats though, so added another cup of flour. Yum!

These are really sweet cookies. There is more sugar than flour in these. I would definitely cut down on the sugar next time. Maybe start with 1/2 cup each of regular and brown sugar. The kids love them though.

I made these recently with the kids who are very fond of butterscotch chips by themselves so they were excited to make these. I used half chocolate chip and half butterscotch for the recipe. I think the kids are too used to our usual chocolate chip cookie recipe that is very rich and yummy and this seemed a little dry for them. I think next time I would cut back on the oats by full cup and increase the flour just a bit. The dryness may have to do with our high altitude though. I really liked the touch of cinnamon.

These came out wonderfully - crisp on the outside and a little chewy on the inside. I added 1/3 cup of mini choc chips in addition to the butterscotch chips. They hold their shape nicely, probably due to the oatmeal. I'll definitely be making these again. :) Thanks for posting!

My husband asked me to make oatmeal scotchies today and so I looked up this recipe. I don't usually care too much for cookies because they are too sweet. i made these this evening and actually forgot to put in the brown sugar..oops. I didn't even notice until the last batch was finishing in the oven. My husband came home as the first batch was coming out and he had one fresh from the oven. He loved them! I tried one also and can honestly say they are delicious (and not so sweet since I made a mistake). Anyhow I will make these again sometime (with the brown sugar..lol). This is a great recipe. Thank you for sharing.

This recipe is truly yummy! The only downside is that sometimes my cookies end up so flat! So this time I decided to use self-rising flour and omitted the salt. I also ground one cup of the oats so the dough wouldn't be so stiff and used a heaping 1/2 tsp cinnamon. The result was a plump and chewy yummy oatmeal scotchie! So whether I want thin and chewy or thick and chewy, I can have them both just by changing the flours around.

I forgot to review these! I made them for Christmas, just like my mom did every year, and they were wonderful. Exactly as I remembered them. Thanks for posting this holiday tradition that I will continue to use each yesr.

Wow, great cookies. Used whole rolled oats which made the dough very stiff, but I used a small scoop (pampered chef type) and the cookies came out perfectly - grease the cookie sheet or use parchment. My family loved them.

This is a classic cookie recipe. Debloves2cook found it on the Hershey website, but it can also be found on the back of a Nestle's butterscotch morsel bag. Better known as "oatmeal scotchies." I like Deb's recipe title better--yummy.
